Hymnus
Præclára custos Vírginum,
Intácta mater Núminis,
Cæléstis aulæ iánua,
Spes nostra, cæli gáudium,
Inter rubéta lílium,
Colúmba formosíssima,
Virga e radíce gérminans
Nostro medélam vúlneri.
Turris dracóni impérvia,
Amíca stella náufragis,
Tuére nos a fráudibus,
Tuáque luce dírige.
Erróris umbras díscute,
Syrtes dolósas ámove,
Fluctus tot inter, déviis
Tutam reclúde sémitam.
Iesu, tibi sit glória,
Qui natus es de Vírgine,
Cum Patre, et almo Spíritu,
In sempitérna sǽcula.
Amen.
Blest guardian of all virgin souls,
Portal of bliss to man forgiven,
Pure Mother of Almighty God,
Thou hope of earth and joy of heaven!
Fair Lily found among the thorn,
Most beauteous Dove with wings of gold,
Rod from whose tender root upsprang
That healing Flower so long foretold
Thou Tower against the dragon proof,
Thou Star to stormtossed voyagers dear;
Our course lies o'er a treacherous deep,
thine be the light by which we steer.
Scatter the mists that round us hang;
Keep far the fatal shoals away;
And while through darkling waves we sweep,
Open a path to light and day.
O Jesu, born of Virgin bright,
Immortal glory be to thee;
Praise to the Father infinite
And Holy Ghost eternally.
Amen.

8:2a O Lord, our Lord, * how admirable is your name throughout all the earth!
8:2b For your magnificence is elevated * above the heavens.
8:3 Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have perfected praise, because of your enemies, * so that you may destroy the enemy and the revenger.
8:4 For I will behold your heavens, the works of your fingers: * the moon and the stars, which you have founded.
8:5 What is man, that you are mindful of him? * or the son of man, that you visit him?
8:6 You reduced him to a little less than the Angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor: * and you have set him over the works of your hands.
8:8 You have subjected all things under his feet, * all sheep and oxen, and in addition the beasts of the field.

De libro Génesis
From the Book of Genesis
Gen 3:1-5
Gen 3:1-5
1 However, the serpent was more crafty than any of the creatures of the earth that the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Why has God instructed you, that you should not eat from every tree of Paradise?"
2 The woman responded to him: "From the fruit of the trees which are in Paradise, we eat."
3 Yet truly, from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of Paradise, God has instructed us that we should not eat, and that we should not touch it, lest perhaps we may die."
4 Then the serpent said to the woman: "By no means will you die a death."
5 For God knows that, on whatever day you will eat from it, your eyes will be opened; and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil."
℟ Per unum hóminem peccátum in hunc mundum intrávit, in quo omnes peccavérunt.
℟ Through one man, sin entered into this world, in whom all have sinned.
Ne tímeas, María, invenísti grátiam apud Deum.
Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found grace with God.
℣ The Lord has delivered your soul from death, and has become your protector against the enemy.
℟ Ne tímeas, María, invenísti grátiam apud Deum.
℟ Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found grace with God.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio. Unigénitus Dei Fílius nos benedícere et adiuváre dignétur.
Benedictio. May the Only Begotten Son of God be pleased to bless and assist us.

Gen 3:6-8
Gen 3:6-8
6 And so the woman saw that the tree was good to eat, and beautiful to the eyes, and delightful to consider. And she took from its fruit, and she ate. And she gave to her husband, who ate.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened. And when they realized themselves to be naked, they joined together fig leaves and made coverings for themselves.
8 And when they had heard the voice of the Lord God taking a walk in Paradise in the afternoon breeze, Adam and his wife hid themselves from the face of the Lord God in the midst of the trees of Paradise.
℟ Transíte ad me, omnes qui concupíscitis me:
℟ Come to me, all you who desire me:
Et narrábo vobis quanta fecit Deus ánimæ meæ.
And I will tell you how great are the things God has done for my soul.
℣ Vivit Dóminus, quóniam adimplévit in me misericórdiam suam.
℣ The Lord lives, for he has fulfilled his mercy in me.
℟ Et narrábo vobis quanta fecit Deus ánimæ meæ.
℟ And I will tell you how great are the things God has done for my soul.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Gen 3:9-15
Gen 3:9-15
Quæ respóndit: Serpens decépit me, et comédi.
9 And the Lord God called Adam and said to him: 'Where are you?'
10 And he said, 'I heard your voice in Paradise, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and so I hid myself.'
11 He said to him, 'Then who told you that you were naked, if you have not eaten of the tree from which I instructed you that you should not eat?'
12 And Adam said, 'The woman, whom you gave to me as a companion, gave to me from the tree, and I ate.'
13 And the Lord God said to the woman, 'Why have you done this?' And she responded, 'The serpent deceived me, and I ate.'
14 And the Lord God said to the serpent: 'Because you have done this, you are cursed among all living things, even the wild beasts of the earth. Upon your breast shall you travel, and the ground shall you eat, all the days of your life.
15 I will put enmities between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. She will crush your head, and you will lie in wait for her heel.'
℟ Elécta mea cándida sicut nix in Líbano; sicut favus distíllans lábia eius:
℟ My chosen one is radiant as snow on Lebanon; like a dripping honeycomb are her lips:
Mel et lac sub lingua illíus.
Honey and milk are under her tongue.
℣ Veni de Líbano, sponsa mea, veni, coronáberis coróna gratiárum.
℣ Come from Lebanon, my spouse, come, you shall be crowned with a crown of graces.

Sermo sancti Hierónymi Presbýteri
Sermon of Saint Jerome, Priest
What the blessed and glorious ever-Virgin Mary was, and how great she was, is declared by the Angel from on high when he says: Hail, full of grace; the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women. For it was fitting that the Virgin should be endowed with such gifts, so as to be full of grace: she who gave glory to the heavens, gave the Lord to the earth, poured forth peace, brought faith to the peoples, an end to vices, an order of life, and discipline to morals. And rightly full, because to others grace is granted in part; but upon Mary the fullness of grace poured itself out all at once. Truly full, because though grace is believed to have been present in the holy Patriarchs and Prophets, it was not yet so full; but into Mary came the fullness of all grace that is in Christ, though in a different manner. And therefore it says: Blessed are you among women — that is, more blessed than all women. And thus whatever curse was poured forth through Eve, the blessing of Mary has wholly taken away. Of her, Solomon in the Canticles, as in her praise, says: Come, my dove, my immaculate one. For the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. And then he says: Come from Lebanon, come, you shall be crowned.
℟ Ego ex ore Altíssimi prodívi, primogénita ante omnem creatúram: ego feci in cælis, ut orirétur lumen indefíciens.
℟ I went forth from the mouth of the Most High, the firstborn before all creatures: I caused an unfailing light to rise in the heavens.
Nondum erant abýssi, et ego iam concépta eram.
The depths did not yet exist, and I was already conceived.
℣ Deus enim creávit me in iustítia, et apprehéndit manum meam, et servávit me.
℣ For God created me in justice, and took me by the hand, and preserved me.
℟ Nondum erant abýssi, et ego iam concépta eram.
℟ The depths did not yet exist, and I was already conceived.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio. Christus perpétuæ det nobis gáudia vitæ.
Benedictio. May Christ grant us the joys of eternal life.

Not without reason, therefore, is she bidden to come from Lebanon, because Lebanon is interpreted as whiteness. For she was white — made white with many virtues of merit, and whiter than snow by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, representing in all things the simplicity of the dove: for whatever was done in her was all purity and simplicity, all truth and grace; all mercy and justice, which looked down from heaven — and therefore immaculate, because corrupted in nothing. For she encompassed a man in her womb, as the holy Jeremiah bears witness, and received him from no other source. The Lord, he says, shall make a new thing upon the earth, and a woman shall encompass a man. Truly new, and a novelty of virtues surpassing all novelties, when God — whom the world cannot bear, nor can anyone see and still live — so entered the lodging of the womb as not to know the enclosure of the body; and so was carried within it that the whole God was there; and so went forth from it that, as Ezekiel acknowledges, the gate was altogether closed. Hence it is sung of her in those same Canticles: A garden enclosed, a fountain sealed, your outpourings a paradise. Truly a garden of delights, in which are planted all kinds of flowers and the fragrance of virtues; and so enclosed that it knows no violation nor corruption by any snares of guile. A fountain, therefore, sealed with the seal of the whole Trinity.
℟ Nihil inquinátum in eam incúrrit:
℟ No stain of defilement fell upon her:
She is the brightness of eternal light and a mirror without spot.
℣ For she is more beautiful than the sun, and compared to light she is found more pure.
℟ She is the brightness of eternal light and a mirror without spot.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio. Ignem sui amóris accéndat Deus in córdibus nostris.
Benedictio. May God kindle the fire of his love in our hearts.

Ex Actis Pii Papæ noni
Deíparæ autem Vírginis in sua Conceptióne de tetérrimo humáni géneris hoste victóriam, quam divína elóquia, veneránda tradítio, perpétuus Ecclésiæ sensus, singuláris episcopórum ac fidélium conspirátio, insígnia quoque summórum Pontíficum acta atque constitutiónes mirífice iam illustrábant, Pius nonus Póntifex máximus totíus Ecclésiæ votis ánnuens státuit suprémo suo atque infallíbili oráculo solémniter proclamáre. Itaque sexto idus decémbris anni millésimi octingentésimi quinquagésimi quarti in basílica Vaticána, ingénti sanctæ Románæ Ecclésiæ patrum cardinálium et Episcopórum ex díssitis étiam regiónibus astánte cœtu, universóque plaudénte orbe, solémniter pronuntiávit et definívit: Doctrínam quæ tenet beatíssimam Vírginem Maríam in primo instánti suæ Conceptiónis fuísse, singulári Dei privilégio, ab omni originális culpæ labe præservátam immúnem, esse a Deo revelátam, ac proínde ab ómnibus fidélibus fírmiter constantérque credéndam.
From the Acts of Pope Pius IX
The victory of the Virgin Mother of God over the most abominable enemy of the human race in her Conception — which the divine oracles, venerable tradition, the perpetual sense of the Church, the singular agreement of bishops and faithful, and the illustrious acts and constitutions of the Supreme Pontiffs had already wondrously illuminated — Pope Pius IX, the Supreme Pontiff, acceding to the wishes of the whole Church, resolved to proclaim solemnly by his supreme and infallible oracle. And so, on the sixth day before the Ides of December of the year eighteen hundred and fifty-four, in the Vatican Basilica, with a great assembly of the fathers, cardinals, and bishops of the Holy Roman Church standing round, come even from distant regions, and the whole world applauding, he solemnly pronounced and defined: that the doctrine which holds that the most Blessed Virgin Mary was, in the first instant of her Conception, by a singular privilege of God, preserved immune from all stain of original fault, is revealed by God, and is therefore to be believed firmly and constantly by all the faithful.
℟ A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet,
Et in cápite eius coróna stellárum duódecim.
And on her head a crown of twelve stars.
℣ Induit eam Dóminus vestiméntis salútis, induménto iustítiæ, et quasi sponsam ornávit eam monílibus suis.
℣ The Lord clothed her with garments of salvation, with a robe of righteousness, and adorned her as a bride with his jewels.
℟ Et in cápite eius coróna stellárum duódecim.
℟ And on her head a crown of twelve stars.
℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

℟ Et in cápite eius coróna stellárum duódecim.
℟ And on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Pater noster, qui es in cælis, sanctificétur nomen tuum: advéniat regnum tuum: fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra. Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie: et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom come: thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses, as we also forgive those who trespass against us:
℣ Et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem:
℣ And lead us not into temptation:
℟ Sed líbera nos a malo.
℟ But deliver us from evil.
Absolutio. A vínculis peccatórum nostrórum absólvat nos omnípotens et miséricors Dóminus.
Absolutio. May the almighty and merciful Lord absolve us from the bonds of our sins.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio.
Benedictio. May he bless us who lives and reigns without end.

In Præsentatione Deiparæ
Hail, Mary, full of grace, holier than the Saints, higher than the heavens, more glorious than the Cherubim, more honorable than the Seraphim, and more venerable than every creature. Hail, dove, who brings us both the fruit of the olive and announces the Savior from the spiritual flood, and the harbor of salvation; whose wings are as silver, and the hinder part of her back as the pale gold of the most holy and illuminating Spirit's brightness. Hail, most pleasant and rational paradise of God, planted today toward the East by the same God's most benevolent and almighty right hand, and putting forth for him a sweet-smelling lily and an unfading rose as a remedy for those who had drunk at the West the pestilential and soul-destroying bitterness of death; a paradise in which the life-giving tree blossoms to the knowledge of truth, and those who have tasted of it attain immortality. Hail, holy dwelling, built sacred, immaculate, and most pure palace of the most high King God, adorned on all sides with the magnificence of the same God the King, receiving all as guests and refreshing them with mystical delights; in which is placed the bridal chamber, not made by hands, radiant with varied beauty, of the spiritual Bridegroom; in which the Word, wishing to call back the straying human race, espoused flesh to himself, that he might reconcile to the Father those who had made themselves exiles by their own will.
℟ Hortus conclúsus soror mea sponsa, hortus conclúsus, fons signátus:
℟ A garden enclosed is my sister, my bride, a garden enclosed, a sealed fountain:
Emissiónes tuæ paradísus, o María.
Your sproutings are paradise, O Mary.
℣ Aperi mihi, soror mea, amíca mea, colúmba mea, immaculáta mea.
℣ Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my immaculate one.
℟ Emissiónes tuæ paradísus, o María.
℟ Your sproutings are paradise, O Mary.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio. Divínum auxílium máneat semper nobíscum.
Benedictio. May the divine assistance remain always with us.

Hail, O richly fruitful and shady mountain of God, on which the rational Lamb was nurtured, who bore our sins and infirmities: the mountain from which that stone was rolled down, cut out by no hand, that shattered the altars of idols and became the head of the corner, wonderful in our eyes. Hail, holy throne of God, divine gift, house of glory, most beautiful ornament, chosen treasure, and propitiation for the whole world, and heaven telling forth the glory of God. Hail, vessel fashioned of pure gold, containing the most sweet delight of our souls, namely Christ who is the manna. O most pure Virgin, most worthy of all praise and service, a gift consecrated to God surpassing every rank of creatures, uncut earth, unplowed field, most flourishing vine, fountain pouring forth waters, virgin bearing, and mother ignorant of a man, hidden treasury of innocence and glory of holiness; by your most acceptable prayers, powerful with maternal authority, before the Lord and God the Maker of all things, your Son begotten of you without a father, bring it about that you guide the helm of the ecclesiastical order and lead it to a tranquil haven.
℟ Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum:
℟ My soul magnifies the Lord:
Because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
℣ For behold, from this time all generations shall call me blessed.
℟ Because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
℟ Because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio. Ad societátem cívium supernórum perdúcat nos Rex Angelórum.
Benedictio. May the King of Angels lead us to the company of the citizens on high.

Amen.
Clothe priests most splendidly with justice and with the exultation of a proven, immaculate, and sincere faith. To Orthodox rulers who, in preference to all the splendor of purple or gold, to pearls and precious stones, have gained you as their diadem and garment and most firm adornment of their kingdom, direct their scepters in tranquil and prosperous state. Cast down at their feet and subdue the faithless nations that blaspheme you and the God begotten of you; and confirm the subjected people to persevere in the sweet obedience of God's commandment. Crown this your city, which has you as its tower and foundation, with the triumphs of victory, and girding it with your strength guard it as the dwelling of God; ever preserve the beauty of the temple; deliver those who praise you from every peril and anguish of soul. Grant redemption to captives; show yourself a comfort to pilgrims destitute of shelter and of every protection. Stretch out your helping hand to the whole world, that we may bring these your solemn feasts together with the present festival we celebrate to a most splendid close in joy and exultation, in Christ Jesus the King of all and our true God, to whom be glory and might together with the holy Father who is the principle of life, and the coeternal and consubstantial and co-reigning Spirit, now and always and for ever and ever. Amen.
℟ Behold, the Lord will come descending in splendor, and his power with him,
Visitáre pópulum suum in pace, et constitúere super eum vitam sempitérnam.
To visit his people in peace, and to establish over them everlasting life.
℣ Ecce Dóminus noster cum virtúte véniet.
℣ Behold, our Lord will come with power.
℟ Visitáre pópulum suum in pace, et constitúere super eum vitam sempitérnam.
℟ To visit his people in peace, and to establish over them everlasting life.
Amen.
℟ Visitáre pópulum suum in pace, et constitúere super eum vitam sempitérnam.
℟ To visit his people in peace, and to establish over them everlasting life.
