Hymnus
Vírginis Proles, Opiféxque Matris,
Virgo quem gessit, peperítque Virgo:
Vírginis festum cánimus beátæ,
Accipe votum.
Huius orátu, Deus alme, nobis
Débitas pœnas scélerum remítte;
Ut tibi puro resonémus almum
Péctore carmen.
Sit decus Patri, genitǽque Proli,
Et tibi, compar utriúsque virtus,
Spíritus semper, Deus unus, omni
Témporis ævo.
Amen.
Son of a virgin, maker of thy mother,
Thou, rod and blossom from a stem unstainèd,
While we a Virgin's triumphs are rehearsing,
Hear our petition!
Lo, on thy handmaid fell a two-fold blessing,
Who, in her body vanquishing the weakness,
In that same body, grace from heaven obtaining,
Bore the world witness.
Death, nor the rending pains of death appalled her;
Bondage and torment found her undefeated:
So by the shedding of her blood attained she
Heavenly guerdon.
Fountain of mercy, hear the prayers she offers;
Purge our offences, pardon our transgressions,
So that hereafter we to thee may render
Praise with thanksgiving.
Thou, the All-Father, thou, the One-Begotten,
Thou, Holy Spirit, Three in One co-equal,
Glory be henceforth thine through all the ages,
World without ending.
Amen.

Psalm 8

8:2a O Lord, our Lord, * how admirable is your name throughout all the earth!
8:2b For your magnificence is elevated * above the heavens.
8:3 Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have perfected praise, because of your enemies, * so that you may destroy the enemy and the revenger.
8:4 For I will behold your heavens, the works of your fingers: * the moon and the stars, which you have founded.
8:5 What is man, that you are mindful of him? * or the son of man, that you visit him?
8:6 You reduced him to a little less than the Angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor: * and you have set him over the works of your hands.
8:8 You have subjected all things under his feet, * all sheep and oxen, and in addition the beasts of the field.
8:9 The birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, * which pass through the paths of the sea.

Psalm 18
18:10 Timor Dómini sanctus, pérmanens in sǽculum sǽculi: * iudícia Dómini vera, iustificáta in semetípsa.
18:11 Desiderabília super aurum et lápidem pretiósum multum: * et dulcióra super mel et favum.
18:12 Étenim servus tuus custódit ea, * in custodiéndis illis retribútio multa.

18:2 The heavens describe the glory of God: * and the firmament announces the work of his hands.

18:4 There are no speeches or conversations, * where their voices are not being heard.
18:5 Their sound has gone forth through all the earth: * and their words to the ends of the world.

18:6b He has exulted like a giant running along the way, * (7a) his departure is from the summit of heaven:
18:7b And his course reaches all the way to its summit: * neither is there anyone who can hide himself from his heat.
18:8 The law of the Lord is immaculate, converting souls: * the testimony of the Lord is faithful, providing wisdom to little ones.
18:9 The justice of the Lord is right, rejoicing hearts: * the precepts of the Lord are brilliant, enlightening the eyes.
18:10 The fear of the Lord is holy, enduring for all generations: * the judgments of the Lord are true, justified in themselves.
18:11 Desirable beyond gold and many precious stones: * and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.
18:12 For, indeed, your servant keeps them, * and in keeping them, there are many rewards.
18:13 Who can understand transgression? † From my hidden faults, cleanse me, O Lord: * (14a) and from those of others, spare your servant.
18:14b If they will have no dominion over me, then I will be immaculate: * and I will be cleansed from the greatest transgression.
18:15a And the eloquence of my mouth will be so as to please: * along with the meditation of my heart in your sight always.
18:15b O Lord, my helper, * and my redeemer.

De libro primo Machabæórum
From the First Book of Maccabees
1 Mac 8:1-4
1 Mac 8:1-4
1 And Judas heard of the fame of the Romans, that they are powerful and strong, and that they willingly agree to all things that are asked of them, and that whoever draws near to them, they establish friendship with them, and that they are powerful and strong.
2 And they heard of their battles, and the successful works that they had accomplished in Galatia, how they had subdued them and brought them under tribute.
3 And what great things they had accomplished in the region of Spain, and that they had driven under their power the mines of silver and gold which are there, and that they possessed every place, by their counsel and their patience.
4 And they had overcome places that were very far from them, and kings who came against them from the ends of the earth, and had crushed them and struck them with a great scourging; but the rest paid them tribute every year.
℟ The sun shone upon the golden shields, and the mountains gleamed with them:
Et fortitúdo géntium dissipáta est.
And the strength of the nations was scattered.
℣ For the army was very great and strong: and Judas and his army drew near for battle.
℟ Et fortitúdo géntium dissipáta est.
℟ And the strength of the nations was scattered.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio. Unigénitus Dei Fílius nos benedícere et adiuváre dignétur.
Benedictio. May the Only Begotten Son of God be pleased to bless and assist us.

1 Mac 8:17-22
1 Mac 8:17-22
17 And so Judas chose Eupolemus, the son of John, the son of Jacob, and Jason, the son of Eleazar, and he sent them to Rome to make an agreement of friendship and an alliance with them,
18 and so that they would take away from them the yoke of the Grecians, for they saw that they oppressed the kingdom of Israel with servitude.
19 And they went to Rome, a very long journey, and they entered the senate house, and they said,
20 Judas Maccabeus, and his brothers, and the people of the Jews, have sent us to you to establish with you an alliance and peace, and so that we may be registered among your associates and friends.
21 And the word was pleasing in their sight.
22 And this is a copy of the writing, which they rewrote on tablets of brass and sent to Jerusalem, so that it would be with them in that place as a memorial of the peace and alliance:
℟ Ornavérunt fáciem templi corónis áureis, et dedicavérunt altáre Dómino:
℟ They adorned the face of the temple with golden crowns, and they dedicated the altar to the Lord:
Et facta est lætítia magna in pópulo.
And there was great joy among the people.
℣ In hymnis et confessiónibus benedicébant Dóminum.
℣ In hymns and confessions they were blessing the Lord.
℟ Et facta est lætítia magna in pópulo.
℟ And there was great joy among the people.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio. Ad gáudia paradísi perdúcat nos misericórdia Christi.
Benedictio. May the mercy of Christ lead us to the joys of paradise.

1 Mac 8:23-27
1 Mac 8:23-27
25 auxílium feret gens Iudæórum, prout tempus dictáverit, corde pleno;
23 May all be well with the Romans and with the nation of the Jews, at sea and on land, forever, and may sword and enemy be far away from them.
24 But if a war is instituted against the Romans first, or against any of their allies in all their dominions,
25 the nation of the Jews will bring help to them, just as the situation shall direct, whole-heartedly.
26 And those who do battle, they need not provide with supplies of wheat, or arms, or money, or ships, just as it seems good to the Romans, and they shall obey their orders, while taking nothing from them.
27 But in like manner also, if war will have fallen upon the nation of the Jews first, the Romans shall help them willingly, just as the situation permits them.
℟ In hymnis et confessiónibus benedicébant Dóminum,
℟ In hymns and confessions they blessed the Lord,
Qui magna fecit in Israël, et victóriam dedit illis Dóminus omnípotens.
Who did great things in Israel, and the Lord almighty gave them victory.
℣ Ornavérunt fáciem templi corónis áureis, et dedicavérunt altáre Dómino.

Margarita Maria Alacóque, in pago diœcesis Augustodunénsis, honesto genere nata, iam inde a teneris annis futuræ sanctitátis indícia præbuit. In Deiparam Vírginem et in augustum Eucharistiæ sacraméntum amóre flagrans, adolescentula Deo virginitátem devovit, id exoptans unice ut ad christianas virtútes vitam compóneret. In deliciis habebat prolixas preces rerumque cæléstium contemplatiónem, sui contemptum, patiéntiam in adversis, corporis afflictatiónem, caritátem in próximos, præsertim egénos; summoque studio nitebátur ut sanctíssima divini Redemptoris exempla pro viribus referret.
Margaret Mary Alacoque, born of honorable family in a village of the diocese of Autun, showed signs of future holiness from her earliest years. Burning with love for the Virgin Mother of God and for the august Sacrament of the Eucharist, she vowed her virginity to God as a young woman, desiring this alone — that she might order her life according to the Christian virtues. She delighted in lengthy prayers and contemplation of heavenly things, in contempt of herself, patience in adversity, affliction of the body, charity toward her neighbors, especially the poor; and with the greatest zeal she strove to reflect as much as possible the most holy examples of the divine Redeemer.

Having entered the Order of the Visitation, she at once began to shine with the radiance of religious life. She was adorned by God with the gift of deeper prayer, and also with other gifts of grace and frequent visions. The most celebrated of these was when Jesus presented himself to be seen by her as she prayed before the Eucharist, and showed her his divine Heart open in his breast, aflame and encircled by thorns, and commanded her that, on account of such charity and to make reparation for the injuries of ungrateful men, she should take care to establish public veneration of his Heart, with great rewards of heavenly treasure set forth. When she hesitated out of humility and declared herself unequal to so great a task, the most loving Savior encouraged her, and at the same time designated a man of outstanding holiness, Claude de la Colombière, as her guide and helper; and he nourished her with the hope of that supreme benefit which afterward flowed from the devotion to the divine Heart upon the Church.

Margaret strove with all diligence to fulfill the commands of the Redeemer. Nor, however, was she without many troubles and sharp insults from those who kept saying that she was subject to a vain delusion of the mind. All these things she bore with equanimity, indeed counting them as gain, judging that through reproaches and sorrows she would be an offering pleasing to God, and would obtain greater aids for her purpose. Flourishing in the praise of religious perfection, and daily more closely united to her heavenly Spouse through the contemplation of eternal things, she flew to him in the forty-third year of her age, in the year of restored salvation sixteen hundred and ninety. Renowned for miracles,

There is no true knowledge other than that which is given by the Holy Spirit, but this is granted only to the humble. Have we not seen great theologians who spoke wonderful things about the virtues, yet did not practice them? On the other hand, we have seen many women who could not speak learnedly about the virtues, yet knew how to fulfill the works of the virtues worthily. For the Holy Spirit made them wise, because they possessed the fear of the Lord, and piety, and humility.
℟ Hæc est Virgo sápiens, quam Dóminus vigilántem invénit, quæ accéptis lampádibus sumpsit secum óleum:
℟ This is the wise Virgin, whom the Lord found watching, who, having taken her lamps, brought oil with her:
And when the Lord came, she entered with him to the wedding feast.
℣ Média nocte clamor factus est: Ecce sponsus venit, exíte óbviam ei.
℣ At midnight a cry was made: Behold, the bridegroom comes; go forth to meet him.
℟ And when the Lord came, she entered with him to the wedding feast.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio. Divínum auxílium máneat semper nobíscum.
Benedictio. May the divine assistance remain always with us.

Fragmentum sermo 16, in III Dominica post Pentecostem, initio
Fragmentum sermo 16, in III Dominica post Pentecostem, initio
Our Lord, the great and most illustrious physician of all our infirmities, before he came into this world, had openly declared through his prophets: What is broken I will bind up, and what is sick I will strengthen. And thereafter he cried out with his own mouth, saying: Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will refresh you. Why is it surprising, then, if we behold him surrounded by the sick, by sinners and publicans? Is it not the glory of a physician to be sought out by the sick?
℟ Média nocte clamor factus est:
℟ At midnight a cry was made:
Ecce sponsus venit, exíte óbviam ei.
Behold, the bridegroom comes; go forth to meet him.
℣ Prudéntes vírgines, aptáte vestras lámpades.
℣ Wise virgins, trim your lamps.
℟ Ecce sponsus venit, exíte óbviam ei.
℟ Behold, the bridegroom comes; go forth to meet him.
℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
℟ Ecce sponsus venit, exíte óbviam ei.
℟ Behold, the bridegroom comes; go forth to meet him.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benedictio. Ad societátem cívium supernórum perdúcat nos Rex Angelórum.
Benedictio. May the King of Angels lead us to the company of the citizens on high.

Fragmentum serm. 10 pro Feria II post Pascha, in fine
Fragmentum serm.
Amen.
He bears our miseries and thereby ennobles them, he sets misery before his own Heart, he shows his side. But we must love him in return, otherwise he who showed his wounds out of love will one day show them out of wrath and indignation. Grant, O good Jesus, that we may receive the peace you offer, and may behold your wounds, so that, since faith, hope, and charity abide, rooted in faith, rejoicing in hope and fervent in charity, we may await the blessed hope and your coming, in such a way that in that hour we may see you as the Lamb at the right hand and not the Lion at the left; and that in place of faith we may have vision, in place of hope possession, and in place of imperfect charity perfect charity, in which we shall rejoice for ever and ever. Amen.

(The following verse is said kneeling)
(Brethren, when they begin 'Te ergo quaesumus,' departing from the Stalls, let them reverently bow at the words 'Quos pretioso' and the rest)

Miserére nostri, Dómine, * miserére nostri.
Fiat misericórdia tua, Dómine, super nos, * quemádmodum sperávimus in te.
In te, Dómine, sperávi: * non confúndar in ætérnum.
And so we beg you, help your servants, * redeemed by your most precious blood.
Number them * among your Saints in eternal glory.
Number them * among your Saints in eternal glory.
Save your people, Lord, * and bless your inheritance.
Shepherd them * and raise them to eternal life.
Day by day * we bless you,
(A bow is made, according to custom) and we praise your name * for endless ages evermore.
and we praise your name * for endless ages evermore.
Be gracious, Lord, on this day, * and keep us from all sin.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, * have mercy.
May your mercy be upon us, Lord, * as we place our trust in you.
In you, O Lord, I rest my hope: * let me never be put to shame.
