Capitulum Hymnus Versus

Act 12:1-3

Act 12:1-3

Misit Heródes rex manus ut afflígeret quosdam de Ecclésia. Occídit autem Iacóbum fratrem Ioánnis gládio. Videns autem quia placéret Iudǽis, appósuit ut apprehénderet et Petrum.

Now at the same time, king Herod extended his hand, in order to afflict some from the Church. Then he killed James, the brother of John, with the sword. And seeing that it pleased the Jews, he set out next to apprehend Peter also.

Deo grátias.

Thanks be to God.

Miris modis repénte liber, férrea,
Christo iubénte, vincla Petrus éxuit:
Ovílis ille Pastor et Rector gregis,
Vitæ reclúdit páscua et fontes sacros,
Ovésque servat créditas, arcet lupos.

Patri perénne sit per ævum glória;
Tibíque laudes concinámus ínclytas,
Ætérne Nate; sit, supérne Spíritus,
Honor tibi decúsque: sancta iúgiter
Laudétur omne Trínitas per sǽculum.
Amen.

In wondrous mode set free, lo, at the Lord's command
The galling iron chain doth fall from Peter's hand,
From Peter, shepherd blest, who doth with gentle sway,
His faithful children lead in virtue's fragrant way,
And e'er with watchful love the tempter drive away.

Now to the Father be eternal glory done;
Our songs we raise to thee, O everlasting Son;
O Spirit from on high, thy throne we bow before;
To thee be honour, praise, and glory evermore:
The Holy Trinity we worship and adore.
Amen.

Tu es Petrus.

You are Peter.

Et super hanc petram ædificábo Ecclésiam meam.

And upon this rock I will build my Church.

Canticum: Magnificat

Ant. Solve, * iubénte Deo, terrárum, Petre, caténas, qui facis ut páteant cæléstia regna beátis.

Ant. Loose, * at God's command, O Peter, the chains of the earth, you who cause the gates of heaven to lie open to the blessed.

Luc. 1:46-55

Luc. 1:46-55

1:51 Fecit poténtiam in brácchio suo: * dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui.

1:46 My soul * proclaims the greatness of the Lord.
1:47 And my spirit rejoices * in God my Saviour.
1:48 He has looked upon his handmaid in her lowliness; * for behold, from this day forward, all generations will call me blessed.
1:49 For the Almighty has done great things for me, * and holy is his name.
1:50 His mercy is from age to age * for those who fear him.
1:51 He has made known the strength of his arm, * and has scattered the proud in their conceit of heart.
1:52 He has cast down the mighty from their thrones * and has exalted those who are lowly.
1:53 He has filled the hungry with good things, * and has sent the rich away empty.
1:54 He has helped his servant Israel, * mindful of his mercy,
1:55 even as he promised to our fathers, * to Abraham and his descendants forever.

Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
