2 Séraphim stabant super illud: sex alæ uni, et sex alæ álteri, duábus velábant fáciem eius, et duábus velábant pedes eius, et duábus volábant.
3 Et clamábant alter ad álterum, et dicébant: Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus, Dóminus exercítuum, plena est omnis terra glória eius.
4 Et commóta sunt superliminária cárdinum a voce clamántis, et domus repléta est fumo.

1 In the year in which king Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, sublime and exalted, and the things that were under him filled the temple.
2 The Seraphims were standing above the throne. One had six wings, and the other had six wings: with two they were covering his face, and with two they were covering his feet, and with two they were flying.
3 And they were crying out to one another, and saying: 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God of hosts! All the earth is filled with his glory!'
4 And the lintels above the hinges were shaken at the voice of the one crying out. And the house was filled with smoke.

The faith which the holy Patriarchs and Prophets received divinely before the Incarnation of the Son of God, which the holy Apostles also heard from the Lord himself while dwelling in the flesh, and which, instructed by the teaching of the Holy Spirit, they not only proclaimed by word but also committed to writing for the most wholesome instruction of posterity — this faith proclaims one God in Trinity, that is, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. But the Trinity would not be true if the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit were said to be one and the same person.

What Catholic does not know that the Father is truly Father, the Son is truly Son, and the Holy Spirit is truly Holy Spirit? As the Lord himself says to his Apostles: Going, baptize all nations in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This is the perfect Trinity subsisting in unity, which we profess to be of one substance. For we do not, after the manner of bodies, make division in God; but according to the power of the divine nature, which is not in matter, we both believe that the persons of the names truly subsist and testify that the unity of the divinity is one.

We do not say that the Son of God is an extension of one part from another part, as some have supposed; nor do we take the Word as something without substance, like the sound of a voice: but we believe that the three Names and three Persons are of one essence, one majesty, and one power. And therefore we confess one God: because the unity of majesty forbids that those who are many be called gods. In the end we name Father and Son in Catholic usage; but to speak of two Gods we neither can nor ought. Not that the Son of God is not God — he is indeed true God from true God — but because we know the Son of God from no other than from that one Father himself, therefore we say one God.
