At Rome, on the Latin Way, the birth of the holy Martyrs Gordianus and Epimachus; the former, for his confession of the name of Christ in the time of Julian the Apostate, was long beaten with leaden flails and finally beheaded, and buried by night by Christians on the same road in a crypt into which the relics of the blessed Martyr Epimachus had shortly before been transferred from Alexandria, where he himself had completed his martyrdom for the faith of Christ on the day before the Ides of December.
