Hymnus

Jam lucis orto sídere,

Deum precémur súpplices,

Ut in diúrnis áctibus

Nos servet a nocéntibus.

Linguam refrénans témperet,

Ne litis horror ínsonet:

Visum fovéndo cóntegat,

Ne vanitátes háuriat.

Sint pura cordis íntima,

Absístat et vecórdia;

Carnis terat supérbiam

Potus cibíque párcitas.

Ut, cum dies abscésserit,

Noctémque sors redúxerit,

Mundi per abstinéntiam

Ipsi canámus glóriam.

Deo Patri sit glória,

Ejúsque soli Fílio,

Cum Spíritu Paráclito,

Nunc et per omne sǽculum.

Amen.

Now that the sun has risen,

Let us humbly pray to God,

That in our daily actions

He may keep us from all harm.

May he hold back and bridle the tongue,

Lest the din of strife ring out:

May he guard the eyes with care,

Lest they drink in vanities.

Let the depths of the heart be pure,

And let folly be far away;

May sparing use of food and drink

Curb the pride of the flesh.

That when the day shall pass away

And fortune bring back the night,

Pure through abstinence,

We may ourselves sing his glory.

To God the Father be glory,

And to his only Son,

With the Spirit the Paraclete,

Now and through every age.

Amen.

Psalmi

Ant. Misericórdia tua, * Dómine, ante óculos meos: et complácui in veritáte tua.

Psalmus 25 [1]

25:1 Júdica me, Dómine, quóniam ego in innocéntia mea ingréssus sum: * et in Dómino sperans non infirmábor.

25:2 Proba me, Dómine, et tenta me: * ure renes meos et cor meum.

25:12 Pes meus stetit in dirécto: * in ecclésiis benedícam te, Dómine.

℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Psalmus 51 [2]

51:3 Quid gloriáris in malítia, * qui potens es in iniquitáte?

Amen.

Psalmus 52 [3]

Amen.

Ant. Misericórdia tua, Dómine, ante óculos meos: et complácui in veritáte tua.

Ant. Your mercy, * O Lord, is before my eyes: and I have been pleasing in your truth.

Psalm 25 [1]

25:1 Judge me, Lord, for I have been walking in my innocence, * and by hoping in the Lord, I will not be weakened.

25:2 Examine me, Lord, and test me: * enkindle my temperament and my heart.

25:3 For your mercy is before my eyes, * and I have delighted in your truth.

25:4 I have not sat with the council of emptiness, * and I will not enter with those who carry out injustice.

25:5 I have hated the assembly of the malicious; * and I will not sit with the impious.

25:6 I will wash my hands among the innocent, * and I will surround your altar, O Lord,

25:7 so that I may hear the voice of your praise * and describe all your wonders.

25:8 O Lord, I have loved the beauty of your house * and the dwelling place of your glory.

25:9 O God, do not let my soul perish with the impious, * nor my life with the men of blood,

25:10 in whose hands are iniquities: * their right hand has been filled by bribes.

25:11 But as for me, I have been walking in my innocence. * Redeem me, and have mercy on me.

25:12 My foot has stood firm in the straight path. * In the churches, I will bless you, O Lord.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Psalm 51 [2]

51:3 Why do you glory in malice, * you who are powerful in iniquity?

51:4 All day long your tongue thinks up injustice. * Like a sharp razor, you have wrought deceit.

51:5 You have loved malice above goodness, * and iniquity more than speaking righteousness.

51:6 You have loved all ruinous words, * you deceitful tongue.

51:7 Because of this, God will destroy you in the end. * He will pull you up, and he will remove you from your tabernacle and your root from the land of the living.

51:8 The just will see and be afraid, and they will laugh over him, and say: * “Behold the man who did not set God as his helper.

51:9 But he hoped in the multitude of his riches, * and so he prevailed in his emptiness.”

51:10 But I, like a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, * have hoped in the mercy of God unto eternity, and forever and ever.

51:11 I will confess to you forever, because you have accomplished it. * And I will wait on your name, for it is good in the sight of your saints.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Psalm 52 [3]

52:1 The fool has said in his heart, * “There is no God.”

52:2 They were corrupted, and they became abominable with iniquities. * There is no one who does good.

52:3 God gazed down from heaven on the sons of men, * to see if there were any who were considering or seeking God.

52:4 All have gone astray; together they have become useless. * There is no one who does good; there is not even one.

52:5 Will they never learn: all those who work iniquity, * who devour my people like a meal of bread?

52:6 They have not called upon God. * In that place, they have trembled in fear, where there was no fear.

52:6 For God has scattered the bones of those who please men. * They have been confounded, because God has spurned them.

52:7 Who will grant from Zion the salvation of Israel? * Jacob will exult, when God will convert the captivity of his people; and Israel will rejoice.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Ant. Your mercy, O Lord, is before my eyes: and I have been pleasing in your truth.

The Twenty-Fourth of September. The twelfth day of the moon. In the year of our Lord 2026.

Commemoration of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, Foundress of the Order of Redemption of Captives under her name, whose Apparition is recorded on the Tenth of August.

At Brescia, the burial of Saint Anathalon, Bishop, who, as a disciple of the blessed Apostle Barnabas, succeeded him as Bishop of the Church of Milan.

In Pannonia, Saint Gerard, Bishop of the see of Morisena and Martyr, called the Apostle of the Hungarians, a Venetian nobleman; who, while traveling from the town of Csanád to Székesfehérvár, was attacked by unbelievers near the river Danube, overwhelmed with stones and finally pierced through with a lance, and thus was the first to glorify his homeland with a noble martyrdom.

At Autun, the heavenly birthday of the holy Martyrs Andochius, Priest, Thyrsus, Deacon, and Felix. These, sent from the East by the blessed Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna, to preach the faith in Gaul, were there most harshly beaten with scourges, hung for a whole day with their hands turned behind them, and cast into the fire, yet were not burned; at last their necks were struck with clubs, and thus they were most gloriously crowned as Martyrs.

In Egypt, the passion of the holy Martyrs Paphnutius and his Companions. He, while living in solitude, hearing that many Christians were held in chains, moved by the divine Spirit, spontaneously presented himself to the prefect and freely professed the Christian faith; by whom he was first bound with iron chains and tortured for a very long time on the rack, then sent with many others to Diocletian, by whose command he was nailed to a palm tree, while the rest were put to death by the sword.

At Chalcedon, the holy Forty-Nine Martyrs, who, after the martyrdom of Saint Euphemia, under the Emperor Diocletian, were condemned to the beasts, and, when by divine power they escaped unharmed from them, were at last struck by the sword and passed into heaven.

At Clermont, in Gaul, the burial of Saint Rusticus, Bishop and Confessor.

At Flaviac, in the territory of Beauvais, Saint Geremarus, Priest and Abbot.

At Septempeda, in Picenum, the burial of Saint Pacificus, Priest of the Order of Friars Minor and Confessor, a man of outstanding patience and renowned for his love of solitude, whom Pope Gregory XVI enrolled in the canon of the Saints.

℣ And elsewhere of many other holy Martyrs and Confessors, and holy Virgins.

℟ Thanks be to God.

℣ Precious in the sight of the Lord.

℟ The death of his Saints.

May holy Mary and all the Saints intercede for us to the Lord, that we may merit to be helped and saved by him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

℟ Amen.
