Saint John of Cantius, Priest and Confessor, who fell asleep in the Lord on the twenty-fourth of December.
In the city of Aveia, near Aquila, in the Vestini, the birth into heaven of blessed Maximus, Levite and Martyr; who, out of desire for suffering, showed himself openly to the persecutors who were searching for him, and after standing firm in his reply, was suspended and tortured on the rack, then beaten with clubs, and at last thrown headlong from a height and killed.
At Agen, in Gaul, Saint Caprasius, Martyr, who, while he lay hidden in a cave to avoid the fury of the persecution, was at last encouraged, upon hearing how the blessed Virgin Fides was contending for Christ, and strengthened by this to endure suffering, he prayed to the Lord that, if he judged him worthy of the glory of martyrdom, the clearest water might flow from the rock of the cave; and when the Lord granted this, he went forth without fear to the arena of combat, and bravely fighting under the Emperor Maximian, merited the palm of martyrdom.
At Antioch, Saint Artemius, Duke of Augustalis, who, having served with distinguished military honors under Constantine the Great, was ordered by Julian the Apostate—whom he had rebuked for his cruelty toward Christians—to be beaten with clubs, afflicted with other torments, and at last beheaded.
At Constantinople, Saint Andrew of Crete, Monk, who, for the veneration of holy images, under Constantine Copronymus, was beaten repeatedly and at last, with one foot cut off, gave up his spirit.
At Cologne, the passion of the holy Virgins Martha and Saula, with many others.
Near Nabantia, in Portugal, Saint Irene, Virgin and Martyr; whose body was honorably buried in the town of Scalabis, which from that time retained the name of that Saint.
At Alsontia, in the territory of Rheims, Saint Sindulphus, Priest and Confessor.
Near Minden, in Germany, the Translation of Saint Felicianus, Bishop of Foligno and Martyr; a portion of his sacred relics, brought into Germany from the Umbrian city of Foligno, was deposited there—the city where he had once suffered on the twenty-fourth of January.
At Paris, likewise the Translation of the holy Martyrs George the Deacon and Aurelius, from the Spanish city of Córdoba, in which both had formerly completed their martyrdom on the twenty-seventh of July, together with three other companions.
