Hymnus
Iste Conféssor Dómini, coléntes
Quem pie laudant pópuli per orbem,
Hac die lætus méruit beátas
Scándere sedes.
Qui pius, prudens, húmilis, pudícus,
Sóbriam duxit sine labe vitam,
Donec humános animávit auræ
Spíritus artus.
Cuius ob præstans méritum, frequénter,
Ægra quæ passim iacuére membra,
Víribus morbi dómitis, salúti
Restituúntur.
Noster hinc illi chorus obsequéntem
Cóncinit laudem celebrésque palmas,
Ut piis eius précibus iuvémur
Omne per ævum.
Sit salus illi, decus atque virtus,
Qui, super cæli sólio corúscans,
Tótius mundi sériem gubérnat,
Trinus et unus.
Amen.
This Confessor of the Lord, whom the peoples
piously praise and celebrate throughout the world,
on this day merited joyfully
to ascend the blessed seats.
Who, devout, prudent, humble, and pure,
led a sober life without stain,
until the breath of the Spirit
gave life to his mortal limbs.
By whose outstanding merit, frequently,
sick members that lay here and there,
with the power of disease overcome,
are restored to health.
Our choir sings to him
its dutiful praise and celebrated palms,
that we may be aided by his devout prayers
through every age.
Let salvation, honor, and power be to him
who, shining upon the throne of heaven,
governs the order of the whole world,
Three and One.
Amen.

Nocturn 1
Ant.
Ant. Blessed is the man * who meditates on the law of the Lord: his will endures day and night, and all things whatsoever he shall do shall always prosper.
Psalmus 1
Psalm 1
1:1 Blessed is the man who has not followed the counsel of the impious, and has not remained in the way of sinners, * and has not sat in the chair of pestilence:
1:2 But his will is with the law of the Lord, * and he will meditate on his law, day and night.
1:3a And he will be like a tree that has been planted beside running waters, * which will provide its fruit in its time:
1:3b And its leaf will not fall away: * and all things whatsoever that he does will prosper.
1:4 Not so the impious, not so: * but they are like the dust that the wind casts along the face of the earth.
1:5 Therefore, the impious will not prevail again in judgment: * nor sinners in the council of the just.
1:6 For the Lord knows the way of the just: * and the path of the impious will pass away.
℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

Psalmus 2
Psalm 2
2:3 Dirumpámus víncula eórum: * et proiciámus a nobis iugum ipsórum.
2:4 Qui hábitat in cælis, irridébit eos: * et Dóminus subsannábit eos.
2:7 Dóminus dixit ad me: * Fílius meus es tu, ego hódie génui te.
2:8 Póstula a me, et dabo tibi gentes hereditátem tuam, * et possessiónem tuam términos terræ.
2:9 Reges eos in virga férrea, * et tamquam vas fíguli confrínges eos.
2:11 Servíte Dómino in timóre: * et exsultáte ei cum tremóre.
2:1 Why have the Gentiles been seething: * and why have the people been pondering nonsense?
2:2 The kings of the earth have stood up, and the leaders have joined together as one * against the Lord, and against his Christ:
2:3 Let us shatter their chains: * and cast their yoke away from us.
2:4 He who dwells in heaven will ridicule them: * and the Lord will mock them.
2:5 Then will he speak to them in his anger, * and trouble them with his fury.
2:6 Yet I have been appointed king by him over Zion, his holy mountain, * preaching his precepts.
2:7 The Lord has said to me: * You are my son, this day have I begotten you.
2:8 Ask of me, and I will give to you the Gentiles for your inheritance, * and the ends of the earth for your possession.
2:9 You will rule them with an iron rod, * and you will shatter them like a potter's vessel.
2:10 And now, O kings, understand: * be instructed, you who judge the earth.
2:11 Serve the Lord in fear: * and rejoice before him with trembling.
2:12 Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, * and you perish from the just way.
2:13 When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time: * blessed are all who trust in him.

3:7 Non timébo míllia pópuli circumdántis me: * exsúrge, Dómine, salvum me fac, Deus meus.
3:2 Lord, why have they who trouble me been multiplied? * Many rise up against me.
3:3 Many say of my soul: * There is no salvation for him in his God.
3:4 But you, O Lord, are my sustainer, * my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
3:5 With my voice I cried out to the Lord: * and he heard me from his holy mountain.
3:6 I slept, and took my rest: * and I arose, for the Lord sustained me.
3:7 I will not fear thousands of people surrounding me: * arise, O Lord, save me, O my God.
3:8 For you have struck all who oppose me without cause: * you have broken the teeth of sinners.

De libro Génesis
From the Book of Genesis
Gen 14:8-12
Gen 14:8-12
8 And the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and indeed the king of Bela, which is Zoar, went forth. And they directed their ranks against them in the wooded valley,
9 namely against Chedorlaomer, king of the Elamites, and Tidal, king of the Nations, and Amraphel, king of Shinar, and Arioch, king of Pontus: four kings against five.
10 Now the wooded valley had many pits of bitumen. And so the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah turned back, and they fell there. And those who remained fled to the mountain.
11 Then they took all the substance of the Sodomites and the Gomorrahites, and all that pertained to food, and they went away,
12 along with both Lot, the son of Abram's brother, who lived in Sodom, and his substance.
℟ Angelus Dómini vocávit Abraham, dicens:
℟ The Angel of the Lord called to Abraham, saying:
Ne exténdas manum tuam super púerum, eo quod tímeas Dóminum.
Do not stretch out your hand against the boy, because you fear the Lord.
℣ And when he had stretched out his hand to sacrifice his son, behold the Angel of the Lord cried out from heaven, saying.
℟ Ne exténdas manum tuam super púerum, eo quod tímeas Dóminum.
℟ Do not stretch out your hand against the boy, because you fear the Lord.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Gen 14:13-16
Gen 14:13-16
13 And behold, one who had escaped reported it to Abram the Hebrew, who lived in the steep valley of Mamre the Amorite, who was the brother of Eshcol, and the brother of Aner. For these had formed an agreement with Abram.
14 When Abram had heard this, namely, that his brother Lot had been taken captive, he numbered three hundred and eighteen of his own armed men and he went in pursuit all the way to Dan.
15 And dividing his company, he rushed upon them in the night. And he struck them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
16 And he brought back all the substance, and Lot his brother, with his substance, likewise the women and the people.
℟ Vocávit Angelus Dómini Abraham de cælo, secúndo, dicens: Benedícam tibi,
℟ The Angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time, saying: I will bless you,
Et multiplicábo te sicut stellas cæli.
And I will multiply you as the stars of heaven.
℣ Possidébit semen tuum portas inimicórum tuórum, et benedicéntur in sémine tuo omnes tribus terræ.
℣ Your seed shall possess the gates of your enemies, and in your seed shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed.

Cyril of Alexandria, whose praises have been confirmed not merely by the testimony of one or another, but have been celebrated in the acts of the ecumenical councils of Ephesus and Chalcedon, was born of illustrious parents, and being the nephew of Theophilus, Bishop of Alexandria, gave clear proofs of his outstanding genius even as a youth. Thoroughly trained in letters and the sciences, he betook himself to John, Bishop of Jerusalem, to be perfected in the Christian faith. Having returned to Alexandria thereafter, upon the death of Theophilus, he was raised to his see: in which office he so steadfastly displayed the form of the best shepherd as defined by the Apostle, that he deservedly attained the glory of a most holy bishop.

Do not stretch out your hand against the boy, because you fear the Lord.
℣ And when he had stretched out his hand to sacrifice his son, behold the Angel of the Lord cried out from heaven, saying.

Burning with zeal for the salvation of souls, he directed all his efforts to preserving the flock entrusted to him in the integrity of faith and morals and defending it from the poisoned pastures of unbelievers and heretics. Hence he endeavored both to expel the followers of Novatus from the city and to have the Jews punished according to the laws, who in their fury had conspired for the slaughter of Christians. The singular zeal of Cyril for the preservation of the Catholic faith shone forth especially against Nestorius, bishop of Constantinople, who claimed that Jesus Christ had been born of the Virgin Mary as man only and not as God, and that divinity had been conferred on him as a reward for his merits; and when he had tried in vain to correct him, he denounced him to the holy Supreme Pontiff Celestine.

Presiding by authority delegated by Celestine over the Council of Ephesus, in which the Nestorian heresy was utterly proscribed, Nestorius condemned and deposed from his See, and the Catholic dogma concerning the one, divine Person in Christ and the divine motherhood of the glorious Virgin Mary asserted; the whole people applauding, who, exulting with incredible joy, escorted the bishops home by torchlight. But on this account Cyril was attacked by very many calumnies, injuries, and persecutions from Nestorius and his supporters; which he bore with the greatest patience, so that, anxious only for the faith, he counted as nothing whatever the heretics said or plotted against him. At last, having fulfilled the greatest labors for the Church of God, and having published very many writings both to refute pagans and heretics and to expound the sacred Scriptures and the Catholic doctrines, he rested with a holy end in the year four hundred and forty-four, the thirty-second of his episcopate. Pope Leo the Thirteenth extended the Office and Mass of this most distinguished champion of the Catholic faith and light of the Eastern Church to the universal Church.

At that time: Jesus took the twelve aside, and he said to them: ‘Behold, we are ascending to Jerusalem, and everything shall be completed which was written by the prophets about the Son of man.’ And so forth.

Homilia 2 in Evangelia
Homilia 2 in Evangelia
Our Redeemer, foreseeing that the minds of his disciples would be troubled by his Passion, foretold to them long beforehand both the suffering of that same Passion and the glory of his Resurrection: so that, when they saw him dying as had been foretold, they might not doubt that he would also rise again. But because the disciples were still carnal and in no way able to grasp the words of the mystery, he comes to a miracle. Before their eyes, a blind man received the light: so that those who could not grasp the words of the heavenly mystery might be confirmed in faith by heavenly deeds.
℟ Today I came to the spring of water, and I prayed to the Lord, saying:
Dómine, Deus Abraham, tu prósperum fecísti desidérium meum.
O Lord, God of Abraham, you have made my desire prosper.
℣ Therefore, the maiden to whom I shall say, Give me water to drink from your jar, and she shall say, Drink, my lord, and I will give your camels drink also: she it is whom the Lord has prepared for the son of my master.
℟ Dómine, Deus Abraham, tu prósperum fecísti desidérium meum.
℟ O Lord, God of Abraham, you have made my desire prosper.
℣ Iube, Dómine, benedícere.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.

But the miracles of our Lord and Savior must be received in this way, dearest brethren, that they be believed as truly done, and yet that through their signification they intimate something to us. For his works show one thing by their power and speak another thing by their mystery. For indeed, who that man was who was blind according to the history, we do not know: but nevertheless what he signifies through the mystery, we know. For the human race is blind, which, cast out in its first parent from the joys of paradise, and ignorant of the brightness of the heavenly light, suffers the darkness of its damnation. Yet it is illuminated through the presence of its Redeemer: so that it may now see the joys of the interior light through desire, and set the steps of good works upon the way of life.

Osee 1:8-11

℟ A blind man sat by the road, as the Lord was passing by, and cried out to him: and the Lord said to him:
Quid vis ut fáciam tibi?
Dómine, ut vídeam lumen.
What do you want me to do for you?
Lord, that I may see the light.
℣ But Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be brought to him: and when he drew near, he questioned him, saying.
℟ Quid vis ut fáciam tibi?
℟ What do you want me to do for you?
℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
℟ Dómine, ut vídeam lumen.
℟ Lord, that I may see the light.
