At Venice, the passing of Saint Lawrence Justinian, the first Patriarch of that city and Confessor; who, most abundantly filled with learning and the heavenly gifts of divine wisdom, was enrolled in the number of the Saints by Alexander VIII, Supreme Pontiff. His feast is celebrated chiefly on the Nones of September, the day on which he ascended the pontifical throne.
At Beauvais, in Gaul, the holy Martyrs Lucian the Priest, Maximian, and Julian. The last two were slain by the sword by their persecutors; but blessed Lucian, who had come into Gaul together with Saint Dionysius, himself also, after great slaughter, when he had not feared to confess the name of Christ with his living voice, received the same sentence as his companions.
In Libya, the holy Martyrs Theophilus the Deacon and Helladius, who were first lacerated and pierced with sharp potsherds, then cast into the fire, and gave back their souls to God.
