1 Sum quidem et ego mortális homo, símilis ómnibus, et ex génere terréni illíus, qui prior factus est, et in ventre matris figurátus sum caro,
2 decem ménsium témpore coagulátus sum in sánguine: ex sémine hóminis et delectaménto somni conveniénte;
3 et ego natus accépi commúnem áërem et in simíliter factam décidi terram et primam vocem símilem ómnibus emísi plorans;
4 in involuméntis nutrítus sum, et curis magnis.
5 Nemo enim ex régibus áliud hábuit nativitátis inítium:
6 unus ergo intróitus est ómnibus ad vitam, et símilis éxitus.

1 Certainly, I myself am also a mortal man, like everyone, and the offspring of this earth, which was made beforehand; and in my mother's womb I was fashioned with care,
2 within the time of ten months, made of blood, from the seed of man and the delight of sleeping together.
3 And when I was born, I drew in the common air, and in similar fashion, I fell upon the earth, and the first voice I uttered, like everyone, was crying.
4 I was nursed in swaddling clothes and with great care.
5 For none of the kings had any other beginning of birth.
6 Therefore, there is only one entrance for everyone into life, and the same in leaving.

℟ Dómine, Pater et Deus vitæ meæ, ne derelínquas me in cogitátu malígno: extolléntiam oculórum meórum ne déderis mihi, et desidérium malígnum avérte a me, Dómine; aufer a me concupiscéntiam,

℟ O Lord, Father and God of my life, do not abandon me to an evil thought; do not give me haughtiness of eyes, and turn away from me evil desire, O Lord; take from me concupiscence,

Et ánimo irreverénti et infruníto ne tradas me, Dómine.

And do not deliver me over to a shameless and unruly soul, O Lord.

9 Neither did I compare to her a precious stone, for all gold in comparison with her is like a little sand, and silver, in view of her, will be valued as if dirt.
10 I loved her above health and beauty, and I placed having her before light, for her light is unfailing.

℟ For your judgments are great, O Lord, and your words are beyond telling:

Made rector of the Oratorian house at Caen, having long pondered how to form young men suitable for the ministry of the Church, he departed with strong spirit from the companions with whom he had lived for twenty years, having implored divine aid, though with great difficulty.

He also founded the Society of the Admirable Heart of the Mother of God and other works of charity. He published many distinguished writings, and as an Apostolic missionary evangelized so many villages, towns, and cities, and even the royal court, to the very end of his life.

His singular zeal shone forth in promoting the salutary devotion toward the Most Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, whose liturgical cult to be rendered to them he was, not without some divine inspiration, the first of all to devise; and thus he was regarded as the father, doctor, and apostle of that same cult.
