Sap 3:1-6

1 Iustórum autem ánimæ in manu Dei sunt, et non tanget illos torméntum mortis.
2 Visi sunt óculis insipiéntium mori, et æstimáta est afflíctio éxitus illórum,
3 et quod a nobis est iter extermínium; illi autem sunt in pace;
4 et si coram homínibus torménta passi sunt, spes illórum immortalitáte plena est.
5 In paucis vexáti in multis bene disponéntur, quóniam Deus tentávit eos et invénit illos dignos se.
6 Tamquam aurum in fornáce probávit illos, et quasi holocáusti hóstiam accépit illos, et in témpore erit respéctus illórum.

1 But the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment of death will touch them.
2 In the eyes of the foolish, they seemed to die, and their departure was considered an affliction,
3 and their going away from us, a banishment. Yet they are in peace.
4 And though, in the sight of men, they suffered torments, their hope is full of immortality.
5 Troubled in few things, in many things they will be well compensated, because God has tested them and found them worthy of himself.
6 Like gold in the furnace, he has proved them, and as a holocaust victim, he has received them, and in the time of their visitation

7 they will shine, and they will dash about like sparks among stubble.
8 They will judge the nations and they will rule over the people, and their Lord will reign forever.
9 Those who trust in him, will understand the truth, and those who are faithful in love will rest in him, because grace and peace is for his elect.
10 But the impious will be chastised according to their thoughts, for they have neglected the just and have retreated from the Lord.
11 For whoever abandons wisdom and instruction is unhappy, and their hope is empty, and their labors without fruit, and their works useless.

℟ Magna enim sunt iudícia tua, Dómine, et inenarrabília verba tua:

℟ For your judgments are great, O Lord, and your words are beyond telling:

18 Accípiet armatúram zelus illíus et armábit creatúram ad ultiónem inimicórum.

16 But the just will live forever, and their reward is with the Lord, and the thought of them is with the Most High.
17 Therefore, they will receive a beautiful kingdom and a crown of splendor from the hand of the Lord, for with his right hand he will cover them, and with his holy arm he will defend them.
18 And his zeal will take up arms, and he will equip his servants for retribution on their enemies.
19 He will put on justice as a breastplate, and he will grasp sure judgment as a helmet.
20 He will select fairness as an invincible shield.
21 Yet he will sharpen his severe wrath into a spear, and he will fight with those of the world against the irrational.

Hyacinth the Pole was born to noble and Christian parents in the village of Kamień in the diocese of Wrocław. Instructed in letters from boyhood, after devoting himself to jurisprudence and sacred letters, he was admitted among the canons of Kraków, where he excelled the rest by the distinguished devoutness of his morals and supreme learning. Admitted at Rome into the Order of Preachers by its very founder Saint Dominic, he preserved most holily until the end of his life the perfect manner of living he had learned from him. He cultivated virginity perpetually; he cherished modesty, patience, humility, abstinence, and the other virtues as the sure patrimony of a religious life.

Burning with charity toward God, often spending whole nights in pouring forth prayers and chastising his body, he allowed himself no relief except leaning upon a stone or lying on the bare ground. Having returned to his homeland, he first erected at Friesach, on his journey, a most spacious monastery of his order, then soon another at Kraków. Thence, having built four others through the other provinces of the Polish kingdom, it is incredible to say how greatly he profited all by the preaching of the word of God and the innocence of his life. He let no day pass in which he did not give remarkable evidence of faith, devotion, and innocence.

God illustrated the zeal of this most holy man for the salvation of his neighbors with the greatest miracles. Having led an admirable manner of life for about forty years after his profession, and having foretold to his brethren the day of his death, on the very feast of the Assumption of the Virgin, after completing the canonical Hours and receiving the sacraments of the Church with the highest veneration, with the words: Into your hands, O Lord, he rendered his spirit to God in the year of salvation one thousand two hundred and fifty-seven. Pope Clement VIII enrolled him, made illustrious even after death by miracles, in the number of the Saints.

But this very temptation of his declares how true is that confession of the Lord to the Father: That you have hidden these things from the wise and the prudent, and have revealed them to little ones.
