Hymnus

Surge! Iam terris fera bruma cessit,
Ridet in pratis decus omne florum,
Alma quæ Vitæ Génetrix fuísti,
Surge, María!

Lílium fulgens velut in rubéto,
Mortis auctórem teris una, carpens
Sóntibus fructum pátribus negátum
Arbore vitæ.

Arca non putri fabricáta ligno
Manna tu servas, fluit unde virtus,
Ipsa qua surgent animáta rursus
Ossa sepúlcris.

Prǽsidis mentis dócilis minístra,
Haud caro tabo pátitur resólvi;
Spíritus imo sine fine consors
Tendit ad astra.

Surge! Dilécto pete nixa cælum,
Sume consértum diadéma stellis,
Teque natórum récinens beátam
Excipe carmen.

Laus sit excélsæ Tríadi perénnis,
Quæ tibi, Virgo, tríbuit corónam,
Atque regínam statuítque nostram
Próvida matrem.
Amen.

Arise! the cold blasts from earth have receded,
And in the field are lovely flowers smiling,
For thee, O gracious Mother, bearer of Life,
Arise, O Mary!

Beautiful Lily blooming 'mid the brambles,
Death's haughty author thou alone didst conquer,
Plucking life-giving tree of fruits the fathers
By sin did not taste.

Ark of sweet wood not destined for ruin,
Holding the manna, whence springeth forth the power
Summoning forth the bones again arisen
From depths of the tomb.

Thou handmaid, faithful to the Ruler of hearts,
Thy flesh cruel decay could never touch,
Thy soul of Spirit partaking without end,
Hath winged to the stars.

Leaning on thy beloved, arise, go heav'nward!
Accept the crown with stars for thee bedecked,
List to the hymn thy children sing on this day,
Calling thee blessed.

Praise to the Triune Godhead everlasting,
Who hath caused thee, O Virgin, to be crowned,
And providently willed our Queen thou shouldst be
Also our Mother.
Amen.

Psalmus 8

Psalm 8

8:2a O Lord, our Lord, * how admirable is your name throughout all the earth!
8:2b For your magnificence is elevated * above the heavens.
8:3 Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have perfected praise, because of your enemies, * so that you may destroy the enemy and the revenger.
8:4 For I will behold your heavens, the works of your fingers: * the moon and the stars, which you have founded.
8:5 What is man, that you are mindful of him? * or the son of man, that you visit him?
8:6 You reduced him to a little less than the Angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor: * and you have set him over the works of your hands.
8:8 You have subjected all things under his feet, * all sheep and oxen, and in addition the beasts of the field.
8:9 The birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, * which pass through the paths of the sea.

Psalmus 18

Psalm 18

18:10 Timor Dómini sanctus, pérmanens in sǽculum sǽculi: * iudícia Dómini vera, iustificáta in semetípsa.
18:11 Desiderabília super aurum et lápidem pretiósum multum: * et dulcióra super mel et favum.
18:12 Étenim servus tuus custódit ea, * in custodiéndis illis retribútio multa.

18:2 The heavens describe the glory of God: * and the firmament announces the work of his hands.
18:3 Day proclaims the word to day, * and night to night imparts knowledge.
18:4 There are no speeches or conversations, * where their voices are not being heard.
18:5 Their sound has gone forth through all the earth: * and their words to the ends of the world.
18:6a He has placed his tabernacle in the sun: * and he is like a bridegroom coming out of his bedroom:
18:6b He has exulted like a giant running along the way, * (7a) his departure is from the summit of heaven:
18:7b And his course reaches all the way to its summit: * neither is there anyone who can hide himself from his heat.
18:8 The law of the Lord is immaculate, converting souls: * the testimony of the Lord is faithful, providing wisdom to little ones.
18:9 The justice of the Lord is right, rejoicing hearts: * the precepts of the Lord are brilliant, enlightening the eyes.
18:10 The fear of the Lord is holy, enduring for all generations: * the judgments of the Lord are true, justified in themselves.
18:11 Desirable beyond gold and many precious stones: * and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.
18:12 For, indeed, your servant keeps them, * and in keeping them, there are many rewards.
18:13 Who can understand transgression? † From my hidden faults, cleanse me, O Lord: * (14a) and from those of others, spare your servant.
18:14b If they will have no dominion over me, then I will be immaculate: * and I will be cleansed from the greatest transgression.
18:15a And the eloquence of my mouth will be so as to please: * along with the meditation of my heart in your sight always.
18:15b O Lord, my helper, * and my redeemer.

Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

23:5 Hic accípiet benedictiónem a Dómino: * et misericórdiam a Deo, salutári suo.
23:6 Hæc est generátio quæréntium eum, * quæréntium fáciem Dei Iacob.

23:1 The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof: * the world, and all who dwell therein.
23:2 For he has founded it upon the seas: * and has prepared it upon the rivers.
23:3 Who shall ascend the mountain of the Lord? * or who shall stand in his holy place?
23:4 The innocent in hands and clean of heart, * who has not taken his soul in vain, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbor.
23:5 He shall receive a blessing from the Lord: * and mercy from God his savior.
23:6 This is the generation of those who seek him, * of those who seek the face of the God of Jacob.

Exaltáta est sancta Dei Génetrix.

The holy Mother of God has been exalted *

Super choros Angelórum ad cæléstia regna.

Above the choirs of Angels to the heavenly kingdom.

Pater noster, qui es in cælis, sanctificétur nomen tuum: advéniat regnum tuum: fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra. Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie: et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom come: thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses, as we also forgive those who trespass against us:

Et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem:

And lead us not into temptation:

Sed líbera nos a malo.

But deliver us from evil.

Absolutio.

Absolutio. Hear us, Lord Jesus Christ, and have mercy on your servants: You who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.

Iube, Dómine, benedícere.

Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Benedictio. Benedictióne perpétua benedícat nos Pater ætérnus.

Benedictio. May the eternal Father bless us with his everlasting blessing.

De libro Génesis

From the Book of Genesis

Gen 3:9-15

Gen 3:9-15

Quæ respóndit: Serpens decépit me, et comédi.

9 And the Lord God called Adam and said to him: "Where are you?"
10 And he said, "I heard your voice in Paradise, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and so I hid myself."
11 He said to him, "Then who told you that you were naked, if you have not eaten of the tree from which I instructed you that you should not eat?"
12 And Adam said, "The woman, whom you gave to me as a companion, gave to me from the tree, and I ate."
13 And the Lord God said to the woman, "Why have you done this?" And she responded, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."
14 And the Lord God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, you are cursed among all living things, even the wild beasts of the earth. Upon your breast shall you travel, and the ground shall you eat, all the days of your life.
15 I will put enmities between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. She will crush your head, and you will lie in wait for her heel."

Vidi speciósam sicut colúmbam, ascendéntem désuper rivos aquárum, cuius inæstimábilis odor erat nimis in vestiméntis eius;

I saw a beautiful one like a dove, ascending above the streams of waters, whose fragrance in her garments was beyond all measure;

Et sicut dies verni circúmdabant eam flores rosárum et lília convállium.

And as on spring days, flowers of roses and lilies of the valleys surrounded her.

Who is this that ascends through the desert like a column of smoke from the fragrances of myrrh and frankincense?

Et sicut dies verni circúmdabant eam flores rosárum et lília convállium.

And as on spring days, flowers of roses and lilies of the valleys surrounded her.

Iube, Dómine, benedícere.

Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Benedictio. Unigénitus Dei Fílius nos benedícere et adiuváre dignétur.

Benedictio. May the Only Begotten Son of God be pleased to bless and assist us.

De Epístola prima beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Corínthios

From the First Epistle of the blessed Apostle Paul to the Corinthians

1 Cor 15:20-26

1 Cor 15:12-22

20 Christus resurréxit a mórtuis primítiæ dormiéntium,
22 Et sicut in Adam omnes moriúntur, ita et in Christo omnes vivificabúntur;

12 Now if Christ is preached, that he rose again from the dead, how is it that some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not risen.
14 And if Christ has not risen, then our preaching is useless, and your faith is also useless.
15 Then, too, we would be found to be false witnesses of God, because we would have given testimony against God, saying that he had raised up Christ, when he had not raised him up, if, indeed, the dead do not rise again.
16 For if the dead do not rise again, then neither has Christ risen again.
17 But if Christ has not risen, then your faith is vain; for you would still be in your sins.
18 Then, too, those who have fallen asleep in Christ would have perished.
19 If we have hope in Christ for this life only, then we are more miserable than all men.
20 But now Christ has risen again from the dead, as the first-fruits of those who sleep.
21 For certainly, death came through a man. And so, the resurrection of the dead came through a man.
22 And just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be brought to life.

Sicut cedrus exaltáta sum in Líbano, et sicut cypréssus in monte Sion: quasi myrrha elécta,

I was exalted like a cedar in Lebanon, and like a cypress on Mount Sion: like choice myrrh,

Dedi suavitátem odóris.

I gave forth a sweet fragrance.

Et sicut cinnamómum et bálsamum aromatízans.

And like cinnamon and aromatic balm.

Dedi suavitátem odóris.

I gave forth a sweet fragrance.

Iube, Dómine, benedícere.

Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Benedictio. Ad gáudia paradísi perdúcat nos misericórdia Christi.

Benedictio. May the mercy of Christ lead us to the joys of paradise.

1 Cor 15:53-57

1 Cor 15:53-57

53 Thus, it is necessary for this corruptibility to be clothed with incorruptibility, and for this mortality to be clothed with immortality.
54 And when this mortality has been clothed with immortality, then the word that was written shall occur: 'Death is swallowed up in victory.'
55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?
56 Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, who has given us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Who is she that comes forth like the sun, and fair as Jerusalem?

Vidérunt eam fíliæ Sion, et beátam dixérunt, et regínæ laudavérunt eam.

The daughters of Sion saw her, and called her blessed, and queens praised her.

Et sicut dies verni circúmdabant eam flores rosárum et lília convállium.

And as on spring days, flowers of roses and lilies of the valleys surrounded her.

Vidérunt eam fíliæ Sion, et beátam dixérunt, et regínæ laudavérunt eam.

The daughters of Sion saw her, and called her blessed, and queens praised her.

44:11 Listen, daughter, and see, and incline your ear: * and forget your people and your father's house.
44:12 And the king will desire your beauty: * for he is the Lord your God, and they will adore him.
44:13 And the daughters of Tyre with gifts * will entreat your countenance: all the rich men of the people.
44:14 All the glory of the daughter of the King is inside, * in golden fringes, (15a) clothed all around with diversities.
44:15b After her, virgins will be led to the King: * her neighbors will be brought to you.
44:16 They will be brought with gladness and exultation: * they will be led into the temple of the King.
44:17 For your fathers, sons have been born to you: * you will establish them as leaders over all the earth.
44:18a They will remember your name always: * for generation after generation.
44:18b Because of this, peoples will confess to you in eternity: * and forever and ever.

Sermo sancti Ioánnis Damascéni

Sermon of Saint John Damascene

Oratio 2 de Dormit. B. M. V., post init.

Oratio 2 de Dormit. B. M. V., post init.

Sermo S. Athanasii Episcopi

Today the sacred and living ark of the living God, who conceived her Creator in her womb, rests in the temple of the Lord, which was built by no human hands. And David her parent exults, and with him the Angels lead the choirs, the Archangels celebrate, the Virtues give glory, the Principalities exult, the Powers rejoice together, the Dominations are filled with gladness, the Thrones keep the feast day, the Cherubim praise, the Seraphim proclaim her glory. Today Eden, the paradise of the new Adam, receives her animated form, in whom the condemnation was loosed, in whom the tree of life was planted, in whom our nakedness was covered.
Sermon of Saint Athanasius, Bishop

Today the Queen stands at the right hand of her Son who reigns everywhere, as in a garment of gold, clothed about with the variety of incorruption and immortality, and is celebrated with sacred and solemn words: not in the sense that she stands only according to spirit, as if without body and flesh, but in the sense that she is clothed — as regards her most holy flesh — with incorruption and immortality. She is clothed about with variety, moreover, as regards the most holy bones that support her flesh. For from her flesh and from her bones, as from the old Adam, this new Adam fashioned for himself, as it were, a rib to fulfill his place — namely this Incarnation — and, once clothed in it, he bears it forever. And accordingly this new Eve is called the mother of life, and remains clothed about with variety as the firstfruits of immortal life for all the living.

Ornátam monílibus fíliam Ierúsalem Dóminus concupívit:

The Lord desired the daughter of Jerusalem adorned with jewels:

Et vidéntes eam fíliæ Sion, beatíssimam prædicavérunt, dicéntes: Unguéntum effúsum nomen tuum.

And the daughters of Zion, seeing her, proclaimed her most blessed, saying: Your name is as ointment poured out.

Astitit regína a dextris tuis in vestítu deauráto, circúmdata varietáte.

The queen stood at your right hand in golden vesture, surrounded by variety.

Et vidéntes eam fíliæ Sion, beatíssimam prædicavérunt, dicéntes:

And the daughters of Sion, seeing her, proclaimed her most blessed, saying:

Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Unguéntum effúsum nomen tuum.

Your name is as ointment poured out.

Iube, Dómine, benedícere.

Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Benedictio. Christus perpétuæ det nobis gáudia vitæ.

Benedictio. May Christ grant us the joys of eternal life.

Today the immaculate Virgin, who was defiled by no earthly affections but was formed in heavenly thoughts, has not returned to earth; but, since she was a living heaven, she is placed in the heavenly tabernacles. For from whom true life flowed to all — how could she taste death? But she submits to the law laid down by him whom she bore; and as a daughter of the old Adam, she underwent the ancient sentence (for her Son also, who is life itself, did not refuse it); yet as the Mother of the living God, she is worthily assumed to him.
All the hierarchies of angels and of earthly beings proclaim you blessed: for you are also blessed in the heavens, and are proclaimed blessed on earth. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. For with such blessings the first company, which consists of Thrones, Cherubim, and Seraphim, celebrates you: Blessed are you among women, and blessed is your womb, which bore God; and the breasts which that infant yet suckled. But the second hierarchy, which comprises in itself Dominations, Virtues, and Powers, learning from the higher hierarchy, looks upon you and cries out: Blessed are you among women, and blessed is your womb, which conceived God; and the breasts which nourished God made a child.

Beátam me dicent omnes generatiónes,

All generations shall call me blessed,

Because the Lord who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

Et misericórdia eius a progénie in progénies timéntibus eum.

And his mercy is from generation to generation upon those who fear him.

Because the Lord who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

Amen.

Because the Lord who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

Iube, Dómine, benedícere.

Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Benedictio. Ignem sui amóris accéndat Deus in córdibus nostris.

Benedictio. May God kindle the fire of his love in our hearts.

Ex Actis Pii Papæ duodécimi

Quóniam vero univérsa Ecclésia fidem in corpóream beátæ Maríæ Vírginis Assumptiónem per sæculórum decúrsum manifestávit, et totíus orbis Epíscopi prope unánimi consensióne petiérunt ut hæc véritas, quæ Sacris Lítteris innítitur, Christifidélium ánimis pénitus est ínsita, ceterísque revelátis veritátibus plane cónsona, tamquam divínæ et cathólicæ fídei dogma definirétur, Pius duodécimus Póntifex Máximus, totíus Ecclésiæ votis ánnuens, státuit hoc Beátæ Maríæ Vírginis privilégium solémniter renuntiáre. Itaque die prima Novémbris anni máximi Iubilǽi millésimi nongentésimi quinquagésimi, Romæ, in foro ad sancti Petri Basílicam paténte, plurimórum Sanctæ Románæ Ecclésiæ Cardinálium atque Episcopórum ex díssitis étiam regiónibus astánte cœtu, coram ingénti Christifidélium multitúdine, univérso cathólico orbe plaudénte, corpóream Beátæ Maríæ Vírginis Assumptiónem in cælum infallíbili oráculo in hæc verba proclamávit: Postquam súpplices étiam atque étiam ad Deum admóvimus preces, ac Veritátis Spíritus lumen invocávimus, ad Omnipoténtis Dei glóriam, qui peculiárem benevoléntiam suam Maríæ Vírgini dilargítus est, ad sui Fílii honórem, immortális sæculórum Regis ac peccáti mortísque victóris, ad eiúsdem augústæ Matris augéndam glóriam et ad totíus Ecclésiæ gáudium exsultationémque, auctoritáte Dómini Nostri Iesu Christi, Beatórum Apostolórum Petri et Pauli ac Nostra pronuntiámus, declarámus et definímus revelátum dogma esse: Immaculátam Deíparam semper Vírginem Maríam, expléto terréstris vitæ cursu, fuísse córpore et ánima ad cæléstem glóriam assúmptam.

From the Acts of Pope Pius XII

Since the Universal Church has manifested throughout the course of the centuries its faith in the bodily Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Bishops of the whole world have petitioned with nearly unanimous consent that this truth, which is grounded in Sacred Scripture, deeply implanted in the souls of Christ's faithful, and plainly consonant with all other revealed truths, should be defined as a dogma of divine and Catholic faith, Pope Pius XII, the Supreme Pontiff, acceding to the wishes of the whole Church, resolved to solemnly proclaim this privilege of the Blessed Virgin Mary. And so, on the first day of November of the great Jubilee year of nineteen hundred and fifty, at Rome, in the square open before the Basilica of Saint Peter, with a great assembly of the Cardinals and Bishops of the Holy Roman Church standing round, come even from distant regions, before a vast multitude of Christ's faithful, the whole Catholic world applauding, he proclaimed the bodily Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven by infallible oracle in these words: After we have again and again raised suppliant prayers to God and invoked the light of the Spirit of Truth, to the glory of Almighty God who has lavished his special benevolence upon the Virgin Mary, for the honor of his Son, the immortal King of the ages and the Victor over sin and death, for the increase of the glory of that same august Mother and for the joy and exultation of the whole Church, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and of our own, we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever-Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory.

Beáta es, Virgo María, quæ Dóminum portásti, Creatórem mundi:

Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary, who bore the Lord, the Creator of the world:

Genuísti qui te fecit, et in ætérnum pérmanes Virgo.

You gave birth to him who made you, and you remain a Virgin for ever.

Ave, María, grátia plena; Dóminus tecum.

Hail, Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with you.

Genuísti qui te fecit, et in ætérnum pérmanes Virgo.

You gave birth to him who made you, and you remain a Virgin for ever.

Amen.

97:8 Flúmina plaudent manu, simul montes exsultábunt a conspéctu Dómini: * quóniam venit iudicáre terram.
97:9 Iudicábit orbem terrárum in iustítia, * et pópulos in æquitáte.

97:1 Sing to the Lord a new song: * for he has performed wonders.
97:1 His right hand has accomplished salvation for him: * with his holy arm.
97:2 The Lord has made known his salvation: * he has revealed his justice in the sight of the nations.
97:3 He has remembered his mercy, * and his truth toward the house of Israel.
97:3 All the ends of the earth have seen * the salvation of our God.
97:4 Sing joyfully to God, all the earth: * sing and exult, and sing psalms.
97:5 Sing psalms to the Lord with stringed instruments, with strings and the voice of a psalmist: * with subtle wind instruments and the voice of woodwinds.
97:6 Make a joyful noise before the Lord our king: * let the sea be moved and all its fullness, the whole world and all who dwell in it.
97:8 The rivers will clap their hands, the mountains will exult together, before the presence of the Lord: * for he comes to judge the earth.
97:9 He will judge the whole world with justice, * and the peoples with fairness.

Amen.

Ant. Cantáte Dómino cánticum novum: quia mirabília fecit in te, o María.

Ant. Sing to the Lord a new canticle, for he has done wondrous things in you, O Mary.

María Virgo assúmpta est ad æthéreum thálamum.

The Virgin Mary has been taken up to the heavenly bridal chamber.

In quo Rex regum stelláto sedet sólio.

Where the King of kings sits upon a starry throne.

Absolutio. A vínculis peccatórum nostrórum absólvat nos omnípotens et miséricors Dóminus.

Absolutio. May the almighty and merciful Lord absolve us from the bonds of our sins.

Iube, Dómine, benedícere.

Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Benedictio.

Benedictio. May he bless us who lives and reigns without end.

De Maria Deipara Virgine, lib. 5, c. 6

De Maria Deipara Virgine, lib. 5, c. 6

The Church celebrates the sacred feasts of the Mother of God as frequently as reverently, knowing with certainty that it is both pleasing to God and worthy of the faithful of Christ — this duty by which the most blessed Mother of our Lord and God, among all the blessed of either sex, is celebrated at certain times of the year and with public ceremonies. Among these feasts, which have been religiously observed for so many centuries, the feast of the Assumption is reckoned the greatest and holds the preeminent place. Nor did any day turn out more joyful or more blessed for Mary, if we rightly contemplate the new happiness of soul and body bestowed upon her on that day: and therefore if ever at any time, then especially and above all did her spirit and soul and body marvel and exult in the living God, and she herself could most rightly say: He has looked upon the humility of his handmaid: For behold, from this time all generations shall call me blessed, because he who is mighty has done great things for me.

Diffúsa est grátia in lábiis tuis:

Grace is poured forth upon your lips:

Proptérea benedíxit te Deus in ætérnum.

Therefore God has blessed you for ever.

Myrrha, et gutta, et cásia a vestiméntis tuis, a dómibus ebúrneis, ex quibus delectavérunt te fíliæ regum in honóre tuo.

Myrrh and aloe and cassia from your garments, from ivory palaces, whence the daughters of kings have delighted you in your honor.

Proptérea benedíxit te Deus in ætérnum.

Therefore God has blessed you for ever.

Iube, Dómine, benedícere.

Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Benedictio. Divínum auxílium máneat semper nobíscum.

Benedictio. May the divine assistance remain always with us.

Therefore we also, who love you and your Son, O thrice-blessed and truly august Mother, cannot but wholeheartedly rejoice in this your glorious and incomparable blessedness, since all that the Lord has spoken of you and concerning you are brought to so fair a conclusion and at last perfected in every respect. Blessed are you who not only believed, but today have obtained the fruit and end of faith and of every virtue, and have at last merited to enjoy the most joyful sight of him whom you so greatly loved and longed for. When Emmanuel was entering, as a guest, into the citadel of this world, you as hostess received him; today you in turn are received by him into his royal palace, and as a mother worthy of such a Solomon, you are magnificently honored above all.

Beáta es Virgo María, Dei Génetrix, quæ credidísti Dómino: perfécta sunt in te quæ dicta sunt tibi: ecce exaltáta es super choros Angelórum:

Blessed are you, Virgin Mary, Mother of God, who believed the Lord: all things spoken to you have been fulfilled in you: behold, you have been exalted above the choirs of Angels:

Intercéde pro nobis ad Dóminum, Deum nostrum.

Intercede for us to the Lord our God.

Ave, María, grátia plena, Dóminus tecum.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.

Intercéde pro nobis ad Dóminum, Deum nostrum.

Intercede for us to the Lord our God.

Amen.

Intercéde pro nobis ad Dóminum, Deum nostrum.

Intercede for us to the Lord our God.

Iube, Dómine, benedícere.

Grant a blessing, O Lord.

Benedictio. Ad societátem cívium supernórum perdúcat nos Rex Angelórum.

Benedictio. May the King of Angels lead us to the company of the citizens on high.

Blessed indeed the day that conveyed so precious a gift from the desert of this world and led her to the holy and eternal city, so that a joy common and beyond belief, no less than wonder, was created for all the heavenly ones. Blessed the day that satisfied the languishing Bride's desires — both so ardent and so long endured — so that she found what she had sought, received what she had asked, and securely possessed what she had awaited, resting in deepest peace in that perfect vision and fruition of the supreme and eternal Good. Blessed the day that advanced and exalted the most humble handmaid of the Lord to such heights that she became the most excellent Queen of heaven and Lady of the world, and could ascend no higher, since, raised to the throne of the Kingdom, she sits in glory after Christ. Blessed and truly venerable is this day, which established and confirmed for us in the Kingdom of God a Queen and Mother both powerful and clement, so that we might have her, who continually remains Mother of the Judge, as a mother of mercy favorable to us, interceding for us before Christ, and faithfully managing the business of our salvation.

(Brethren, when they begin 'Te ergo quaesumus,' departing from the Stalls, let them reverently bow at the words 'Quos pretioso' and the rest)

Ætérna fac cum Sanctis tuis * in glória numerári.
Ætérna fac cum Sanctis tuis * in glória munerári.
Salvum fac pópulum tuum, Dómine, * et bénedic hereditáti tuæ.
Et rege eos, * et extólle illos usque in ætérnum.
Per síngulos dies * benedícimus te.
(Fit reverentia, secundum consuetudinem) Et laudámus nomen tuum in sǽculum, * et in sǽculum sǽculi.
Et laudámus nomen tuum in sǽculum, * et in sǽculum sǽculi.
Dignáre, Dómine, die isto * sine peccáto nos custodíre.
Miserére nostri, Dómine, * miserére nostri.
Fiat misericórdia tua, Dómine, super nos, * quemádmodum sperávimus in te.
In te, Dómine, sperávi: * non confúndar in ætérnum.

And so we beg you, help your servants, * redeemed by your most precious blood.
Number them * among your Saints in eternal glory.
Number them * among your Saints in eternal glory.
Save your people, Lord, * and bless your inheritance.
Shepherd them * and raise them to eternal life.
Day by day * we bless you,
(A bow is made, according to custom) and we praise your name * for endless ages evermore.
and we praise your name * for endless ages evermore.
Be gracious, Lord, on this day, * and keep us from all sin.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, * have mercy.
May your mercy be upon us, Lord, * as we place our trust in you.
In you, O Lord, I rest my hope: * let me never be put to shame.
