The Eighth of July
At Rome, the passion of the seven holy Martyr brothers, sons of Saint Felicitas, the Martyr, namely Januarius, Felix, Philip, Silvanus, Alexander, Vitalis, and Martialis, in the time of the Emperor Antoninus, under the Prefect of the City Publius. Of these, Januarius, after the beating of rods and the torment of prison, was slain with leaded thongs; Felix and Philip were battered with clubs; Silvanus was slain by being thrown down; Alexander, Vitalis, and Martialis were punished with capital sentence.
Likewise at Rome, the holy Virgins and Martyrs Rufina and Secunda, sisters, who, in the persecution of Valerian and Gallienus, were subjected to torments; and at last, one having her head struck with a sword and the other beheaded, they passed to heaven. Their bodies are kept with due honor in the Lateran Basilica, near the Baptistery.
In Africa, the holy Martyrs Januarius, Marinus, Naboris, and Felix, who were beheaded.
At Nicopolis, in Armenia, the holy Martyrs Leontius, Mauritius, Daniel, and their Companions; who, under the Emperor Licinius and the Governor Lysias, variously tortured, were at last cast into the fire and completed the course of their martyrdom.
In Pisidia, the holy Martyrs Bianor and Silvanus, who, having suffered most savagely in the name of Christ, were at last beheaded and crowned.
At Iconium, in Lycaonia, Saint Apollonius, Martyr, who through the cross completed a distinguished martyrdom.
