O Lord God almighty, who have brought us to the beginning of this day: save us today by your power; that on this day we may turn aside to no sin, but that our words may always proceed, our thoughts be directed, and our works ordered, toward the doing of your justice.

The Ninth of March

At Sardis, Saint Euthymius, Bishop, who, for his veneration of holy Images, was sent into exile by the Emperor Michael the Iconoclast; and at last, under the Emperor Theophilus, was inhumanly beaten with ox sinews and completed his martyrdom.
At Córdoba, in Spain, Saint Eulogius, Priest and Martyr; who, in the Saracen persecution, for his illustrious and intrepid confession of Christ, beaten with rods and blows of the fist and beheaded with a sword, merited to be joined to the Martyrs of the same city, whose contests for the faith he had emulated by his writings.
At Carthage, the holy Martyrs Heraclius and Zosimus.
At Alexandria, the passion of the holy Cándidus, Piperion, and twenty others.
At Laodicea, in Syria, the holy Martyrs Trophimus and Thalus, who in the persecution of Diocletian, after many and savage torments, obtained the crowns of glory.
