2 Gérminans germinábit, et exsultábit lætabúnda et laudans: glória Líbani data est ei: decor Carméli et Saron, ipsi vidébunt glóriam Dómini, et decórem Dei nostri.
3 Confortáte manus dissolútas, et génua debília roboráte.
4 Dícite pusillánimis: Confortámini, et nolíte timére: ecce Deus vester ultiónem addúcet retributiónis: Deus ipse véniet, et salvábit vos.
5 Tunc aperiéntur óculi cæcórum, et aures surdórum patébunt.
6 Tunc sáliet sicut cervus claudus, et apérta erit lingua mutórum: quia scissæ sunt in desérto aquæ, et torréntes in solitúdine.
7 Et quæ erat árida, erit in stagnum, et sítiens in fontes aquárum.

1 The desolate and impassable land will rejoice, and the place of solitude will exult, and it will flourish like the lily.
2 It will spring up and blossom, and it will exult with rejoicing and praising. The glory of Lebanon has been given to it, with the beauty of Carmel and Sharon. These will see the glory of the Lord and the beauty of our God.
3 Strengthen the lax hands, and confirm the weak knees!
4 Say to the fainthearted: "Take courage and fear not! Behold, your God will bring the vindication of retribution. God himself will arrive to save you."
5 Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be cleared.
6 Then the disabled will leap like a buck, and the tongue of the mute will be untied. For the waters have burst forth in the desert, and torrents in solitary places.
7 And the land that was dry will have a pond, and the thirsty land will have fountains of water. In the hollows where the serpents lived before, there will rise up the greenery of reed and bulrush.

℟ Cánite tuba in Sion, vocáte gentes, annuntiáte pópulis, et dícite:

℟ Sound the trumpet in Sion, call the nations, announce to the peoples, and say:

7 And the land that was dry will have a pond, and the thirsty land will have fountains of water. In the hollows where the serpents lived before, there will rise up the greenery of reed and bulrush.
8 And there shall be a path and a road in that place. And it will be called the Holy Way. The defiled will not pass through it. For this will be an upright path for you, so much so that the foolish will not wander along it.
9 There will be no lions in that place, and harmful wild animals will neither climb up to it, nor be found there. Only those who have been freed will walk in that place.
10 And the redeemed of the Lord will be converted, and they will return to Zion with praising. And everlasting joy will be upon their heads. They will obtain gladness and rejoicing. For pain and sorrow will flee away.

℟ The scepter shall not be taken away from Judah, nor the ruler from his thigh, until he who is to be sent shall come:

1 Let the islands be silent before me, and let the nations take new strength. Let them draw near, and then speak. Let us apply for judgment together.
2 Who has raised up a just man from the east, and has called him to follow him? He will place the nations under his gaze, and he will rule over kings. He will cause them to be like dust before his sword, like chaff driven by the wind before his bow.
3 He will pursue them. He will pass by in peace. No trace will appear after his feet.
4 Who has worked and accomplished these things, calling to the generations from the beginning? It is I, the Lord! I am the first and the last.

Ad quam quotídie nos útique réparat grátia Salvatóris, dum quod cécidit in Adam primo, erígitur in secúndo.

If we understand faithfully, dearly beloved, and wisely the beginning of our creation, we shall find that man was made in the image of God in order to be an imitator of his Creator: and that this is the natural dignity of our kind, if the form of divine goodness shines in us as in a kind of mirror. To this image the grace of the Savior restores us daily, while what fell in the first Adam is raised up in the second.

In which words it is to be noted that the friend of the Bridegroom urges that not merely fruits of penance but fruits worthy of penance are to be made. For it is one thing to make a fruit of penance, another to make a fruit worthy of penance. For, in order to speak of fruits worthy of penance, it is to be known that whoever has committed no unlawful things, it is rightly granted to him to make use of lawful things: and so let him perform works of piety, yet in such a way that, if he wishes, he does not give up what belongs to the world.
