The martyrs' triumphs let us sing,

2 I know your works, and your hardship and patient endurance, and that you cannot stand those who are evil. And so, you have tested those who declare themselves to be Apostles and are not, and you have found them to be liars.
3 And you have patient endurance for the sake of my name, and you have not fallen away.
4 But I have this against you: that you have relinquished your first charity.
5 And so, call to mind the place from which you have fallen, and do penance, and do the first works. Otherwise, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.

14 But I have a few things against you. For you have, in that place, those who hold to the doctrine of Balaam, who instructed Balak to cast a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat and to commit fornication.
15 And you also have those who hold to the doctrine of the Nicolaitans.
16 So do penance to the same extent. If you do less, I will come to you quickly and I will fight against these ones with the sword of my mouth.
17 Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Churches. To him who prevails, I will give the hidden manna. And I will give to him a white emblem, and on the emblem, a new name has been written, which no one knows, except the one who receives it.

Nereus and Achilleus, brothers and eunuchs of Flavia Domitilla, having been baptized by the blessed Peter together with her and her mother Plautilla, having persuaded Domitilla to consecrate her virginity to God, were accused as Christians by her betrothed Aurelianus and, on account of their glorious confession of the faith, were exiled to the island of Pontia. There, called again to interrogation and beaten with stripes, they were soon brought to Terracina and, having been tortured with the rack and with flames by Minucius Rufus, and having steadfastly refused — though baptized by the holy Apostle Peter — to be compelled by any torments to sacrifice to idols, they were put to death with the sword. Their bodies were brought to Rome by Auspicium, their disciple and the guardian of Domitilla, and were honorably buried on the Ardeatine Way.

Flavia Domitilla, a Roman virgin, niece of the emperors Titus and Domitian, having received the sacred veil of virginity from the blessed Pope Clement, was denounced by her betrothed Aurelianus, son of the consul Titus Aurelius, on the charge of being a Christian, and was deported by the Emperor Domitian to the island of Pontia, where she endured a long martyrdom in prison. At length, led to Terracina, and having confessed Christ again while appearing ever more steadfast, under the Emperor Trajan she completed the course of a glorious martyrdom, by order of the judge, when her chamber was set on fire, together with the virgins Theodora and Euphrosyna, her companions and foster-sisters, on the Nones of May. Their bodies, found intact, were buried by the deacon Caesarius. On this day, however, the bodies of the two brothers and of Domitilla, translated together from the diaconal church of Saint Hadrian, were restored to the basilica of those Martyrs themselves, of the title of Fasciola.

Pancras, born of a noble family in Phrygia, came to Rome as a boy of fourteen years under the emperors Diocletian and Maximian. There, baptized by the Roman Pontiff and instructed in the Christian faith, he was shortly afterward arrested on account of that same faith; and when he had steadfastly refused to sacrifice to the gods, he received the glorious crown of martyrdom by bowing his neck with manly fortitude. The matron Octavilla took up his body by night, and having anointed it with spices, buried it on the Aurelian Way.

Quid est quod regulus Dominum rogat ut ad eius filium veniat, et tamen ire corporaliter recusat: ad servum vero centurionis non invitatur, et tamen se corporaliter ire pollicetur? Reguli filio per corporalem præsentiam non dignatur adesse, centurionis servo non dedignatur occurrere. Quid est hoc, nisi quod superbia nostra retunditur, qui in hominibus non naturam, qua ad imaginem Dei facti sunt, sed honores et divitias veneramur? Redemptor vero noster ut ostenderet, quia quæ alta sunt hominum, despicienda sunt, et quæ despecta sunt hominum, despicienda non sunt: ad filium reguli ire noluit, ad servum centurionis ire paratus fuit.

Why is it that the royal official begs the Lord to come to his son, and yet the Lord declines to go there in bodily presence; while the servant of the centurion is not invited, and yet he promises to come in bodily presence? He does not deign to be present in body to the son of the official; he does not disdain to go to the servant of the centurion. What is this, if not that our pride is rebuked, since we venerate in men not the nature by which they are made to the image of God, but honors and riches? For our Redeemer, in order to show that what is high among men is to be despised, and what is despised among men is not to be despised, was unwilling to go to the son of the official, but was ready to go to the servant of the centurion.

Having discharged her duties in lower offices with distinction, she was placed in charge of the novices, and trained them for seventeen years in such a way that by the unanimous vote of the entire monastery she was elected as superior. Then especially did fervor of religious discipline flourish in the convent, and her reputation for holiness, increased by heavenly gifts, spread throughout Germany, Bavaria, Hungary, and other nations. Distinguished men, leading citizens of cities, and kings themselves came to consult her as an oracle, even from distant regions, and both Catholics and non-Catholics proclaimed her holy. At last, resplendent with wonders, and consumed more by the force of divine ardor than by disease, when she was in her sixty-second year, with the hour of her death foretold, she flew to the nuptials of the heavenly Lamb: and Leo the Thirteenth, illustrious for miracles in the jubilee year of one thousand nine hundred, enrolled her in the register of Blessed Virgins and granted the recitation of an Office in her honor.
