In Pannonia, Saint Gerard, Bishop of the see of Morisena and Martyr, called the Apostle of the Hungarians, a Venetian nobleman; who, while traveling from the town of Csanád to Székesfehérvár, was attacked by unbelievers near the river Danube, overwhelmed with stones and finally pierced through with a lance, and thus was the first to glorify his homeland with a noble martyrdom.
At Autun, the birthday of the holy Martyrs Andochius, Priest, Thyrsus, Deacon, and Felix. These, sent from the East by the blessed Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna, to preach the faith in Gaul, were there most harshly beaten with scourges, hung for a whole day with their hands turned behind them, and cast into the fire, yet were not burned; at last their necks were struck with clubs, and thus they were most gloriously crowned as Martyrs.
In Egypt, the passion of the holy Martyrs Paphnutius and his Companions. He, while living in solitude, hearing that many Christians were held in chains, moved by the divine Spirit, spontaneously presented himself to the governor and freely professed the Christian faith; by whom he was first bound with iron chains and tortured for a very long time on the rack, then sent with many others to Diocletian, by whose command he was nailed to a palm tree, while the rest were put to death by the sword.
