Hymnus

Jam lucis orto sídere,

Deum precémur súpplices,

Ut in diúrnis áctibus

Nos servet a nocéntibus.

Linguam refrénans témperet,

Ne litis horror ínsonet:

Visum fovéndo cóntegat,

Ne vanitátes háuriat.

Sint pura cordis íntima,

Absístat et vecórdia;

Carnis terat supérbiam

Potus cibíque párcitas.

Ut, cum dies abscésserit,

Noctémque sors redúxerit,

Mundi per abstinéntiam

Ipsi canámus glóriam.

Deo Patri sit glória,

Ejúsque soli Fílio,

Cum Spíritu Paráclito,

Nunc et per omne sǽculum.

Amen.

Now in the sun's new dawning ray,

Lowly of heart, our God we pray

That he from harm may keep us free

In all the deeds this day shall see.

May fear of him our tongues restrain,

Lest strife unguarded speech should stain:

His favouring care our guardian be,

Lest our eyes feed on vanity.

May every heart be pure from sin

And folly find no place therein:

Scant need of food, excess denied,

Wear down in us the body's pride.

That when the light of day is gone,

And night in course shall follow on.

We, free from cares the world affords,

May chant the praise that is our Lord's.

All laud to God the Father be,

All praise, Eternal Son, to thee:

All glory, as is ever meet,

To God the holy Paraclete.

Amen.

Psalmi

Ant. Misericórdia tua, * Dómine, ante óculos meos: et complácui in veritáte tua.

Psalmus 25 [1]

25:1 Júdica me, Dómine, quóniam ego in innocéntia mea ingréssus sum: * et in Dómino sperans non infirmábor.

25:2 Proba me, Dómine, et tenta me: * ure renes meos et cor meum.

25:12 Pes meus stetit in dirécto: * in ecclésiis benedícam te, Dómine.

℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Psalmus 51 [2]

51:3 Quid gloriáris in malítia, * qui potens es in iniquitáte?

Amen.

Psalmus 52 [3]

Amen.

Ant. Misericórdia tua, Dómine, ante óculos meos: et complácui in veritáte tua.

Ant. Your mercy, * O Lord, is before my eyes: and I have been pleasing in your truth.

Psalm 25 [1]

25:1 Judge me, Lord, for I have been walking in my innocence, * and by hoping in the Lord, I will not be weakened.

25:2 Examine me, Lord, and test me: * enkindle my temperament and my heart.

25:3 For your mercy is before my eyes, * and I am serene in your truth.

25:4 I have not sat with the council of emptiness, * and I will not enter with those who carry out injustice.

25:5 I have hated the assembly of the malicious; * and I will not sit with the impious.

25:6 I will wash my hands among the innocent, * and I will surround your altar, O Lord,

25:7 so that I may hear the voice of your praise * and describe all your wonders.

25:8 O Lord, I have loved the beauty of your house * and the dwelling place of your glory.

25:9 O God, do not let my soul perish with the impious, * nor my life with the men of blood,

25:10 in whose hands are iniquities: * their right hand has been filled by bribes.

25:11 But as for me, I have been walking in my innocence. * Redeem me, and have mercy on me.

25:12 My foot has stood firm in the straight path. * In the churches, I will bless you, O Lord.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Psalm 51 [2]

51:3 Why do you glory in malice, * you who are powerful in iniquity?

51:4 All day long your tongue thinks up injustice. * Like a sharp razor, you have wrought deceit.

51:5 You have loved malice above goodness, * and iniquity more than speaking righteousness.

51:6 You have loved all precipitous words, * you deceitful tongue.

51:7 Because of this, God will destroy you in the end. * He will pull you up, and he will remove you from your tabernacle and your root from the land of the living.

51:8 The just will see and be afraid, and they will laugh over him, and say: * “Behold the man who did not set God as his helper.

51:9 But he hoped in the multitude of his riches, * and so he prevailed in his emptiness.”

51:10 But I, like a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, * have hoped in the mercy of God unto eternity, and forever and ever.

51:11 I will confess to you forever, because you have accomplished it. * And I will wait on your name, for it is good in the sight of your saints.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Psalm 52 [3]

52:1 The fool has said in his heart, * “There is no God.”

52:2 They were corrupted, and they became abominable with iniquities. * There is no one who does good.

52:3 God gazed down from heaven on the sons of men, * to see if there were any who were considering or seeking God.

52:4 All have gone astray; together they have become useless. * There is no one who does good; there is not even one.

52:5 Will they never learn: all those who work iniquity, * who devour my people like a meal of bread?

52:6 They have not called upon God. * In that place, they have trembled in fear, where there was no fear.

52:6 For God has scattered the bones of those who please men. * They have been confounded, because God has spurned them.

52:7 Who will grant from Zion the salvation of Israel? * Jacob will exult, when God will convert the captivity of his people; and Israel will rejoice.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Ant. Your mercy, O Lord, is before my eyes: and I have been pleasing in your truth.

The Fifteenth of July. The eleventh day of the moon. In the year of our Lord 2027.

Saint Henry I, Emperor of the Romans and Confessor, whose heavenly birthday is observed on the thirteenth of this month.

At Lyons, in Gaul, the burial of Saint Bonaventure, Cardinal and Bishop of Albano, Confessor and Doctor of the Church, of the Order of Minors, most celebrated for learning and holiness of life. His feast, however, is observed on the day before.

At Pavia, Saint Felix, Bishop and Martyr.

At the Port of Rome, the heavenly birthday of the holy Martyrs Eutropius, and the sisters Zosima and Bonosa.

At Carthage, the blessed Deacon Catulinus, about whose praises Saint Augustine preached a sermon to the people, and the holy Martyrs Januarius, Florentius, Julia, and Justa; who were laid to rest in the Basilica of Faustus.

At Alexandria, the holy Martyrs Philip, Zeno, Narseus, and ten infants.

On the island of Tenedos, Saint Abudemus, Martyr, who suffered under Diocletian.

At Sebaste, in Armenia, Saint Antiochus the physician, who was beheaded under the Governor Hadrian; and when milk flowed from him instead of blood, Cyriacus the executioner, converted to Christ, likewise underwent martyrdom.

At Nisibis, in Mesopotamia, the heavenly birthday of Saint Jacob, Bishop of that city, a man of great holiness. Distinguished for miracles and learning, he was one of the Confessors under the persecution of Galerius Maximian who, at the Council of Nicaea, condemned the perversity of Arius by the affirmation of consubstantiality; and at the prayer of him and of the holy Bishop Alexander, Arius himself received at Constantinople the fitting reward of his iniquity, his bowels having poured out.

At Naples, in Campania, Saint Athanasius, Bishop of that city, who, having suffered greatly at the hands of his wicked nephew Sergius and been driven from his see, at last passed to heaven, worn out by hardships at Veroli, among the Hernicans, in the time of Charles the Bald.

At Campi Salentina, in Apulia, Saint Pompilio Maria Pirrotti, Confessor, of the Order of the Poor Clerics of the Mother of God of the Pious Schools, renowned for apostolic life, enrolled among the Saints by Pope Pius XI.

At Palermo, the Finding of the body of Saint Rosalia, Virgin of Palermo; which, divinely discovered under Pope Urban VIII, delivered Sicily from the plague in the year of Jubilee.

℣ And elsewhere of many other holy Martyrs and Confessors, and holy Virgins.

℟ Thanks be to God.

℣ Precious in the sight of the Lord.

℟ The death of his Saints.

May holy Mary and all the Saints intercede for us to the Lord, that we may merit to be helped and saved by him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

℟ Amen.
