Hymnus
Jam lucis orto sídere,
Deum precémur súpplices,
Ut in diúrnis áctibus
Nos servet a nocéntibus.
Linguam refrénans témperet,
Ne litis horror ínsonet:
Visum fovéndo cóntegat,
Ne vanitátes háuriat.
Sint pura cordis íntima,
Absístat et vecórdia;
Carnis terat supérbiam
Potus cibíque párcitas.
Ut, cum dies abscésserit,
Noctémque sors redúxerit,
Mundi per abstinéntiam
Ipsi canámus glóriam.
Deo Patri sit glória,
Ejúsque soli Fílio,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito,
Nunc et per omne sǽculum.
Amen.
Now in the sun's new dawning ray,
Lowly of heart, our God we pray
That he from harm may keep us free
In all the deeds this day shall see.
May fear of him our tongues restrain,
Lest strife unguarded speech should stain:
His favouring care our guardian be,
Lest our eyes feed on vanity.
May every heart be pure from sin
And folly find no place therein:
Scant need of food, excess denied,
Wear down in us the body's pride.
That when the light of day is gone,
And night in course shall follow on.
We, free from cares the world affords,
May chant the praise that is our Lord's.
All laud to God the Father be,
All praise, Eternal Son, to thee:
All glory, as is ever meet,
To God the holy Paraclete.
Amen.

The Seventh of July. The third day of the moon. In the year of our Lord 2027.
The holy Bishops and Confessors Cyril and Methodius, brothers, whose heavenly birthdays are commemorated respectively on February 14 and April 6.
At Rome, the holy martyrs Claudius, a registrar; Nicostratus, a primiscrinius and husband of the blessed martyr Zoe; Castorius, Victorinus, and Symphorian. Saint Sebastian led them all to the faith of Christ, and blessed Polycarp, Priest, baptized them. The judge Fabian ordered their arrest while they were occupied in searching for the bodies of holy martyrs. After ten days of threats and inducements failed to move them at all, he ordered them tortured three times, then thrown headlong into the sea.
At Dyrrachium in Macedonia, the holy martyrs Peregrinus, Lucian, Pompeius, Hesychius, Papius, Saturninus, and Germanus. Italians by nationality, they had fled to that city during Trajan’s persecution. Seeing Saint Astius, Bishop, hanging on a cross for the faith of Christ, they openly confessed that they too were Christians. Therefore, by order of the governor, they were arrested and drowned in the sea.
At Brescia, Saint Apollonius, Bishop and Confessor.
At Eichstätt in Germany, Saint Willibald, the first Bishop of that city, son of Saint Richard, King of the English, and brother of Saint Walburga, Virgin. Working in the Gospel with Saint Boniface, he converted many peoples to Christ.
At Clermont in Gaul, Saint Illidius, Bishop.
At Urgell in Hispania Tarraconensis, Saint Odo, Bishop.
In England, Saint Hedda, Bishop of the West Saxons.
At Alexandria, the heavenly birthday of Saint Pantaenus, an apostolic man adorned with every kind of wisdom. Such was his zeal and love for the word of God that, burning with faith and devotion, he went even to peoples dwelling in the remotest regions of the East to preach the Gospel of Christ. Finally he returned to Alexandria, where he rested in peace under Antoninus Caracalla.
At Eboriacum in the territory of Meaux, Saint Ethelburga, Abbess and Virgin, daughter of the King of the English.
At Perugia, blessed Pope Benedict XI, a native of Treviso, of the Order of Preachers, Confessor. In his brief pontificate, he wonderfully advanced the peace of the Church, the restoration of discipline, and the growth of religion.
℣ And elsewhere of many other holy Martyrs and Confessors, and holy Virgins.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℣ Precious in the sight of the Lord.
℟ The death of his Saints.
May holy Mary and all the Saints intercede for us to the Lord, that we may merit to be helped and saved by him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
℟ Amen.
