Hymnus

Jam lucis orto sídere,

Deum precémur súpplices,

Ut in diúrnis áctibus

Nos servet a nocéntibus.

Linguam refrénans témperet,

Ne litis horror ínsonet:

Visum fovéndo cóntegat,

Ne vanitátes háuriat.

Sint pura cordis íntima,

Absístat et vecórdia;

Carnis terat supérbiam

Potus cibíque párcitas.

Ut, cum dies abscésserit,

Noctémque sors redúxerit,

Mundi per abstinéntiam

Ipsi canámus glóriam.

Deo Patri sit glória,

Ejúsque soli Fílio,

Cum Spíritu Paráclito,

Nunc et per omne sǽculum.

Amen.

Now in the sun's new dawning ray,

Lowly of heart, our God we pray

That he from harm may keep us free

In all the deeds this day shall see.

May fear of him our tongues restrain,

Lest strife unguarded speech should stain:

His favouring care our guardian be,

Lest our eyes feed on vanity.

May every heart be pure from sin

And folly find no place therein:

Scant need of food, excess denied,

Wear down in us the body's pride.

That when the light of day is gone,

And night in course shall follow on.

We, free from cares the world affords,

May chant the praise that is our Lord's.

All laud to God the Father be,

All praise, Eternal Son, to thee:

All glory, as is ever meet,

To God the holy Paraclete.

Amen.

Psalmi

Ant.

Psalmus 21(2-12) [1]

21:2 Deus, Deus meus, réspice in me: quare me dereliquísti? * longe a salúte mea verba delictórum meórum.

21:8 Omnes vidéntes me, derisérunt me: * locúti sunt lábiis, et movérunt caput.

21:9 Sperávit in Dómino, erípiat eum: * salvum fáciat eum, quóniam vult eum.

Amen.

Psalmus 21(13-23) [2]

21:13 Circumdedérunt me vítuli multi: * tauri pingues obsedérunt me.

21:14 Aperuérunt super me os suum, * sicut leo rápiens et rúgiens.

21:17 Quóniam circumdedérunt me canes multi: * concílium malignántium obsédit me.

21:17 Fodérunt manus meas et pedes meos: * dinumeravérunt ómnia ossa mea.

21:18 Ipsi vero consideravérunt et inspexérunt me: * divisérunt sibi vestiménta mea, et super vestem meam misérunt sortem.

21:20 Tu autem, Dómine, ne elongáveris auxílium tuum a me: * ad defensiónem meam cónspice.

21:22 Salva me ex ore leónis: * et a córnibus unicórnium humilitátem meam.

21:23 Narrábo nomen tuum frátribus meis: * in médio ecclésiæ laudábo te.

℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Psalmus 21(24-32) [3]

21:26 Apud te laus mea in ecclésia magna: * vota mea reddam in conspéctu timéntium eum.

21:30 Manducavérunt et adoravérunt omnes pingues terræ: * in conspéctu ejus cadent omnes qui descéndunt in terram.

21:31 Et ánima mea illi vivet: * et semen meum sérviet ipsi.

21:32 Annuntiábitur Dómino generátio ventúra: * et annuntiábunt cæli justítiam ejus pópulo qui nascétur, quem fecit Dóminus.

℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant.

Ant. Do not depart from me, * O Lord: for tribulation is near: for there is none to help.

Psalm 21(2-12) [1]

21:2 O God, my God, look upon me. Why have you forsaken me? * Far from my salvation are the words of my offenses.

21:3 My God, I will cry out by day, and you will not heed, * and by night, and it will not be foolishness for me.

21:4 But you dwell in holiness, * O Praise of Israel.

21:5 In you, our fathers have hoped. * They hoped, and you freed them.

21:6 They cried out to you, and they were saved. * In you, they hoped and were not confounded.

21:7 But I am a worm and not a man: * a disgrace among men, and an outcast of the people.

21:8 All those who saw me have derided me. * They have spoken with the lips and shook the head.

21:9 He has hoped in the Lord, let him rescue him. * Let him save him because he chooses him.

21:10 For you are the one who has drawn me out of the womb, * my hope from the breasts of my mother. I have been thrown upon you from the womb;

21:11 from the womb of my mother, you are my God. * Do not depart from me.

21:12 For tribulation is near, * since there is no one who may help me.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Psalm 21(13-23) [2]

21:13 Many calves have surrounded me; * fat bulls have besieged me.

21:14 They have opened their mouths over me, * just like a lion seizing and roaring.

21:15 And so, I have been poured out like water, * and all my bones have been scattered.

21:15 My heart has become like wax, melting * in the midst of my chest.

21:16 My strength has dried up like clay, and my tongue has adhered to my jaws. * And you have pulled me down, into the dust of death.

21:17 For many dogs have surrounded me. * The council of the malicious has besieged me.

21:17 They have pierced my hands and feet. * They have numbered all my bones.

21:18 And they have examined me and stared at me. * They divided my garments among them, and over my vestment, they cast lots.

21:20 But you, O Lord, do not take your help far from me; * be attentive to my defense.

21:21 O God, rescue my soul from the spear, * and my only one from the hand of the dog.

21:22 Save me from the mouth of the lion, * and my humility from the horns of the single-horned beast.

21:23 I will declare your name to my brothers. * In the midst of the Church, I will praise you.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Psalm 21(24-32) [3]

21:24 You who fear the Lord, praise him. * All the offspring of Jacob, glorify him.

21:25 May all the offspring of Israel fear him. * For he has neither spurned nor despised the pleas of the poor.

21:25 Neither has he turned his face away from me. * And when I cried out to him, he heeded me.

21:26 My praise is with you, within a great church. * I will pay my vows in the sight of those who fear him.

21:27 The poor will eat and be satisfied, and those who yearn for the Lord will praise him. * Their hearts will live forever and ever.

21:28 All the ends of the earth will remember, * and they will be converted to the Lord.

21:28 And all the families of the Gentiles * will adore in his sight.

21:29 For the kingdom belongs to the Lord, * and he will have dominion over the Gentiles.

21:30 All the fat of the earth have gnashed their teeth, and they have adored. * In his sight, they will fall down, all those who descend to the ground.

21:31 And my soul will live for him, * and my offspring will serve him.

21:32 There will be announced for the Lord a future generation, * and the heavens will announce his justice to a people who will be born, whom the Lord has made.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Ant. Do not depart from me, O Lord: for tribulation is near: for there is none to help.

The Nineteenth of June. The fifteenth day of the moon. In the year of our Lord 2027.

At Florence, Saint Juliana Falconieri the Virgin, who was the foundress of the Sisters of the Order of the Servants of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and was enrolled in the number of holy Virgins by Pope Clement XII, Supreme Pontiff.

At Milan, the holy Martyrs Gervasius and Protasius, brothers; of whom the judge Astasius ordered the former to be beaten with leaded whips so long until he breathed his last; the latter, beaten with clubs, was beheaded. Their bodies, revealed by the Lord, blessed Ambrose found sprinkled with blood and so incorrupt as if they had been slain that very day; and at their translation a blind man received sight by touching the bier, and very many who were tormented by demons were freed.

In the monastery of Valle Castro, in Picenum, the heavenly birthday of Saint Romuald of Ravenna, Anchorite and Father of the Camaldolese Monks; who restored the eremitical discipline that had collapsed in Italy and propagated it wonderfully. His feast, however, is kept on February 7, on which day his sacred relics were translated to Fabriano.

At Arezzo, in Tuscany, the holy Martyrs Gaudentius the Bishop and Culmatius the Deacon, who, in the time of Valentinian, were slain by the fury of the Gentiles.

On the same day, Saint Boniface, Bishop and Martyr, who was a disciple of blessed Romuald. He, sent by Gregory V, Roman Pontiff, to preach the Gospel in Russia, when he had passed through fire unharmed and baptized the King and his people, was killed by the raging brother of the King, and thus received the martyrdom's crown he had longed for.

At Ravenna, Saint Ursicinus the Martyr, who, under the judge Paulinus, after many torments, remaining steadfast in the confession of the Lord, completed his martyrdom by beheading.

At Sozopolis, in Pisidia, Saint Zosimus the Martyr, who, in the persecution of Trajan under the governor Domitian, after bitter torments, was beheaded and departed victorious to the Lord.

℣ And elsewhere of many other holy Martyrs and Confessors, and holy Virgins.

℟ Thanks be to God.

℣ Precious in the sight of the Lord.

℟ The death of his Saints.

May holy Mary and all the Saints intercede for us to the Lord, that we may merit to be helped and saved by him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

℟ Amen.
