Hymnus
Jam lucis orto sídere,
Deum precémur súpplices,
Ut in diúrnis áctibus
Nos servet a nocéntibus.
Linguam refrénans témperet,
Ne litis horror ínsonet:
Visum fovéndo cóntegat,
Ne vanitátes háuriat.
Sint pura cordis íntima,
Absístat et vecórdia;
Carnis terat supérbiam
Potus cibíque párcitas.
Ut, cum dies abscésserit,
Noctémque sors redúxerit,
Mundi per abstinéntiam
Ipsi canámus glóriam.
Deo Patri sit glória,
Ejúsque soli Fílio,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito,
Nunc et per omne sǽculum.
Amen.
Now in the sun's new dawning ray,
Lowly of heart, our God we pray
That he from harm may keep us free
In all the deeds this day shall see.
May fear of him our tongues restrain,
Lest strife unguarded speech should stain:
His favouring care our guardian be,
Lest our eyes feed on vanity.
May every heart be pure from sin
And folly find no place therein:
Scant need of food, excess denied,
Wear down in us the body's pride.
That when the light of day is gone,
And night in course shall follow on.
We, free from cares the world affords,
May chant the praise that is our Lord's.
All laud to God the Father be,
All praise, Eternal Son, to thee:
All glory, as is ever meet,
To God the holy Paraclete.
Amen.

Psalm 23 [1]
23:1 The earth and all its fullness belong to the Lord: * the whole world and all that dwells in it.
23:2 For he has founded it upon the seas, * and he has prepared it upon the rivers.
23:3 Who will ascend to the mountain of the Lord? * And who will stand in his holy place?
23:4 The innocent of hands and the clean of heart, * who has not received his soul in vain, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbor.
23:5 He will receive a blessing from the Lord, * and mercy from God, his Savior.
23:6 This is the generation that seeks him, * that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.
23:7 Lift up your gates, you princes, and be lifted up, eternal gates. * And the King of Glory shall enter.
23:8 Who is this King of Glory? * The Lord who is strong and powerful; the Lord powerful in battle.
23:9 Lift up your gates, you princes, and be lifted up, eternal gates. * And the King of Glory shall enter.
23:10 Who is this King of Glory? * The Lord of virtue. He himself is the King of Glory.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Psalm 18(2-7b) [2]
18:2 The heavens describe the glory of God, * and the firmament announces the work of his hands.
18:3 Day proclaims the word to day, * and night to night imparts knowledge.
18:4 There are no speeches or conversations, * where their voices are not being heard.
18:5 Their sound has gone forth through all the earth, * and their words to the ends of the world.
18:6a He has placed his tabernacle in the sun, * and he is like a bridegroom coming out of his bedroom.
18:6b He has exulted like a giant running along the way; * (7a) his departure is from the summit of heaven.
18:7b And his course reaches all the way to its summit. * Neither is there anyone who can hide himself from his heat.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

18:9 The justice of the Lord is right, rejoicing hearts. * The precepts of the Lord are brilliant, enlightening the eyes.
18:10 The fear of the Lord is holy, enduring for all generations. * The judgments of the Lord are true, justified in themselves:
18:11 desirable beyond gold and many precious stones, * and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.
18:12 For, indeed, your servant keeps them, * and in keeping them, there are many rewards.
18:13 Who can understand transgression? † From my hidden faults, cleanse me, O Lord, * (14a) and from those of others, spare your servant.
18:14b If they will have no dominion over me, then I will be immaculate, * and I will be cleansed from the greatest transgression.
18:15a And the eloquence of my mouth will be so as to please, * along with the meditation of my heart, in your sight, forever,
18:15b O Lord, my helper * and my redeemer.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

The Eleventh of May. The fifth day of the moon. In the year of our Lord 2027.
The heavenly birthday of the blessed Apostles Philip and James. Of these, Philip, having converted almost all of Scythia to the faith of Christ, at last at Hierapolis, a city of Asia, was crucified and buried under stones, and rested with a glorious death; but James, who is also called the brother of the Lord and was the first Bishop of Jerusalem, thrown from the pinnacle of the Temple, with his legs broken thereby and struck on the head with a fuller's club, died, and was buried there not far from the Temple.
At Rome, on the Salarian Way, also the heavenly birthday of blessed Anthimus, Priest, who, after distinguishing himself by virtues and preaching, was in the persecution of Diocletian thrown into the Tiber, rescued thence by an Angel, and restored to his own oratory; then, punished by decapitation, he departed as a victor to the heavens.
In the same place, Saint Evellius, Martyr, who, being of the household of Nero, came to believe in Christ at the passion of Saint Torpetes, and was beheaded for him.
Likewise at Rome, the holy Martyrs Maximus, Bassus, and Fabius; who under Diocletian were slain on the Salarian Way.
At Osimo, in Picenum, the holy Martyrs Sisinius the Deacon, Diocletius, and Florentius, disciples of Saint Anthimus the Priest; who, under Diocletian, buried under stones, completed their martyrdom.
At Camerino, the holy Martyrs Anastasius and his Companions; who, in the persecution of Decius, under the Governor Antiochus, were slain.
At Varennes, in Gaul, Saint Gangulphus, Martyr.
At Vienne, in Gaul, Saint Mamertus, Bishop, who, on account of an impending calamity, instituted in that city the solemn three-day Litanies before the Ascension of the Lord; which rite the universal Church afterwards received and approved.
At Souvigny, in Gaul, the burial of Saint Mayeul, Abbot of Cluny, whose life was illustrious with holy merits.
At Naples, in Campania, Saint Francis of Geronimo, born in a town of the Diocese of Taranto, Cryptalearum, Priest of the Society of Jesus and Confessor, a man of outstanding charity and patience in procuring the salvation of souls; whom Pope Gregory the Sixteenth enrolled in the canon of the Saints.
At Sanseverino, in Picenum, Saint Illuminatus, Confessor.
At Cagliari, in Sardinia, Saint Ignatius of Laconi, Confessor, of the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor, renowned for humility, charity, and miracles, whom Pope Pius the Twelfth adorned with the honors of the Saints.
℣ And elsewhere of many other holy Martyrs and Confessors, and holy Virgins.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℣ Precious in the sight of the Lord.
℟ The death of his Saints.
May holy Mary and all the Saints intercede for us to the Lord, that we may merit to be helped and saved by him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
