Hymnus

Jam lucis orto sídere,

Deum precémur súpplices,

Ut in diúrnis áctibus

Nos servet a nocéntibus.

Linguam refrénans témperet,

Ne litis horror ínsonet:

Visum fovéndo cóntegat,

Ne vanitátes háuriat.

Sint pura cordis íntima,

Absístat et vecórdia;

Carnis terat supérbiam

Potus cibíque párcitas.

Ut, cum dies abscésserit,

Noctémque sors redúxerit,

Mundi per abstinéntiam

Ipsi canámus glóriam.

Deo Patri sit glória,

Ejúsque soli Fílio,

Cum Spíritu Paráclito,

Nunc et per omne sǽculum.

Amen.

Now in the sun's new dawning ray,

Lowly of heart, our God we pray

That he from harm may keep us free

In all the deeds this day shall see.

May fear of him our tongues restrain,

Lest strife unguarded speech should stain:

His favouring care our guardian be,

Lest our eyes feed on vanity.

May every heart be pure from sin

And folly find no place therein:

Scant need of food, excess denied,

Wear down in us the body's pride.

That when the light of day is gone,

And night in course shall follow on.

We, free from cares the world affords,

May chant the praise that is our Lord's.

All laud to God the Father be,

All praise, Eternal Son, to thee:

All glory, as is ever meet,

To God the holy Paraclete.

Amen.

Psalmi

Ant. Líbera me, Dómine, * et pone me juxta te: et cujúsvis manus pugnet contra me.

Psalmus 25 [1]

25:1 Júdica me, Dómine, quóniam ego in innocéntia mea ingréssus sum: * et in Dómino sperans non infirmábor.

25:2 Proba me, Dómine, et tenta me: * ure renes meos et cor meum.

25:12 Pes meus stetit in dirécto: * in ecclésiis benedícam te, Dómine.

℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Psalmus 51 [2]

51:3 Quid gloriáris in malítia, * qui potens es in iniquitáte?

Amen.

Psalmus 52 [3]

Amen.

Ant. Líbera me, Dómine, et pone me juxta te: et cujúsvis manus pugnet contra me.

Ant. Deliver me, O Lord, * and set me beside you: and let any man's hand fight against me.

Psalm 25 [1]

25:1 Judge me, Lord, for I have been walking in my innocence, * and by hoping in the Lord, I will not be weakened.

25:2 Examine me, Lord, and test me: * enkindle my temperament and my heart.

25:3 For your mercy is before my eyes, * and I am serene in your truth.

25:4 I have not sat with the council of emptiness, * and I will not enter with those who carry out injustice.

25:5 I have hated the assembly of the malicious; * and I will not sit with the impious.

25:6 I will wash my hands among the innocent, * and I will surround your altar, O Lord,

25:7 so that I may hear the voice of your praise * and describe all your wonders.

25:8 O Lord, I have loved the beauty of your house * and the dwelling place of your glory.

25:9 O God, do not let my soul perish with the impious, * nor my life with the men of blood,

25:10 in whose hands are iniquities: * their right hand has been filled by bribes.

25:11 But as for me, I have been walking in my innocence. * Redeem me, and have mercy on me.

25:12 My foot has stood firm in the straight path. * In the churches, I will bless you, O Lord.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Psalm 51 [2]

51:3 Why do you glory in malice, * you who are powerful in iniquity?

51:4 All day long your tongue thinks up injustice. * Like a sharp razor, you have wrought deceit.

51:5 You have loved malice above goodness, * and iniquity more than speaking righteousness.

51:6 You have loved all precipitous words, * you deceitful tongue.

51:7 Because of this, God will destroy you in the end. * He will pull you up, and he will remove you from your tabernacle and your root from the land of the living.

51:8 The just will see and be afraid, and they will laugh over him, and say: * “Behold the man who did not set God as his helper.

51:9 But he hoped in the multitude of his riches, * and so he prevailed in his emptiness.”

51:10 But I, like a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, * have hoped in the mercy of God unto eternity, and forever and ever.

51:11 I will confess to you forever, because you have accomplished it. * And I will wait on your name, for it is good in the sight of your saints.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Psalm 52 [3]

52:1 The fool has said in his heart, * “There is no God.”

52:2 They were corrupted, and they became abominable with iniquities. * There is no one who does good.

52:3 God gazed down from heaven on the sons of men, * to see if there were any who were considering or seeking God.

52:4 All have gone astray; together they have become useless. * There is no one who does good; there is not even one.

52:5 Will they never learn: all those who work iniquity, * who devour my people like a meal of bread?

52:6 They have not called upon God. * In that place, they have trembled in fear, where there was no fear.

52:6 For God has scattered the bones of those who please men. * They have been confounded, because God has spurned them.

52:7 Who will grant from Zion the salvation of Israel? * Jacob will exult, when God will convert the captivity of his people; and Israel will rejoice.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Ant. Deliver me, O Lord, and set me beside you: and let any man's hand fight against me.

The Eighteenth of March. The tenth day of the moon. In the year of our Lord 2027.

At Jerusalem, Saint Cyril, Bishop, Confessor and Doctor of the Church; who, having suffered many wrongs at the hands of the Arians for the faith, and often driven from his Church, at last rested in peace, renowned for his holiness. Moreover, the First Ecumenical Council of Constantinople, writing to Pope Saint Damasus, commended his inviolate faith with a distinguished testimony.

At Caesarea, in Palestine, the heavenly birthday of blessed Alexander, Bishop, who, coming from Cappadocia from his own city, where he was Bishop, sought Jerusalem out of longing for the holy places; and there, when that Church was being governed by Narcissus, Bishop of the same city, already an old man, he took over the guidance of it, taught by divine revelation. Afterwards, in the persecution of Decius, when he was already shining with the venerable white hair of a great age, he was brought to Caesarea, and imprisoned there, and completed his martyrdom for confessing Christ.

At Augsburg, Saint Narcissus, Bishop, who first preached the Gospel in Raetia; then went to Spain, and, having converted many to the faith of Christ at Gerona, received there, in the persecution of the Emperor Diocletian, the palm of martyrdom together with Felix the Deacon.

At Nicomedia, ten thousand holy Martyrs, who, for confessing Christ, were put to the sword.

In the same city, the holy Martyrs Trophimus and Eucarpus.

In Britain, Saint Edward, King, who, slain by the treachery of his stepmother, shone with many miracles.

At Lucca, in Tuscany, the heavenly birthday of Saint Frigidianus, Bishop, renowned for the power of his miracles.

At Mantua, Saint Anselm, Bishop of Lucca and Confessor.

At Cagliari, in Sardinia, Saint Salvatore da Horta, Confessor, of the Order of Friars Minor, who shone for virtues and a singular gift of miracles, and was numbered among the holy company of heaven by Pope Pius the Eleventh.

℣ And elsewhere of many other holy Martyrs and Confessors, and holy Virgins.

℟ Thanks be to God.

℣ Precious in the sight of the Lord.

℟ The death of his Saints.

May holy Mary and all the Saints intercede for us to the Lord, that we may merit to be helped and saved by him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

℟ Amen.
