Hymnus
Jam lucis orto sídere,
Deum precémur súpplices,
Ut in diúrnis áctibus
Nos servet a nocéntibus.
Linguam refrénans témperet,
Ne litis horror ínsonet:
Visum fovéndo cóntegat,
Ne vanitátes háuriat.
Sint pura cordis íntima,
Absístat et vecórdia;
Carnis terat supérbiam
Potus cibíque párcitas.
Ut, cum dies abscésserit,
Noctémque sors redúxerit,
Mundi per abstinéntiam
Ipsi canámus glóriam.
Deo Patri sit glória,
Ejúsque soli Fílio,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito,
Nunc et per omne sǽculum.
Amen.
Now in the sun's new dawning ray,
Lowly of heart, our God we pray
That he from harm may keep us free
In all the deeds this day shall see.
May fear of him our tongues restrain,
Lest strife unguarded speech should stain:
His favouring care our guardian be,
Lest our eyes feed on vanity.
May every heart be pure from sin
And folly find no place therein:
Scant need of food, excess denied,
Wear down in us the body's pride.
That when the light of day is gone,
And night in course shall follow on.
We, free from cares the world affords,
May chant the praise that is our Lord's.
All laud to God the Father be,
All praise, Eternal Son, to thee:
All glory, as is ever meet,
To God the holy Paraclete.
Amen.
Psalmi
Ant.
Psalmus 21(2-12) [1]
21:2 Deus, Deus meus, réspice in me: quare me dereliquísti? * longe a salúte mea verba delictórum meórum.
21:8 Omnes vidéntes me, derisérunt me: * locúti sunt lábiis, et movérunt caput.
21:9 Sperávit in Dómino, erípiat eum: * salvum fáciat eum, quóniam vult eum.
Amen.
Psalmus 21(13-23) [2]
21:13 Circumdedérunt me vítuli multi: * tauri pingues obsedérunt me.
21:14 Aperuérunt super me os suum, * sicut leo rápiens et rúgiens.
21:17 Quóniam circumdedérunt me canes multi: * concílium malignántium obsédit me.
21:17 Fodérunt manus meas et pedes meos: * dinumeravérunt ómnia ossa mea.
21:18 Ipsi vero consideravérunt et inspexérunt me: * divisérunt sibi vestiménta mea, et super vestem meam misérunt sortem.
21:20 Tu autem, Dómine, ne elongáveris auxílium tuum a me: * ad defensiónem meam cónspice.
21:22 Salva me ex ore leónis: * et a córnibus unicórnium humilitátem meam.
21:23 Narrábo nomen tuum frátribus meis: * in médio ecclésiæ laudábo te.
℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Psalmus 21(24-32) [3]
21:26 Apud te laus mea in ecclésia magna: * vota mea reddam in conspéctu timéntium eum.
21:30 Manducavérunt et adoravérunt omnes pingues terræ: * in conspéctu ejus cadent omnes qui descéndunt in terram.
21:31 Et ánima mea illi vivet: * et semen meum sérviet ipsi.
21:32 Annuntiábitur Dómino generátio ventúra: * et annuntiábunt cæli justítiam ejus pópulo qui nascétur, quem fecit Dóminus.
℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
Ant.
Ant. Do not depart from me, * O Lord: for tribulation is near: for there is none to help.
Psalm 21(2-12) [1]
21:2 O God, my God, look upon me. Why have you forsaken me? * Far from my salvation are the words of my offenses.
21:3 My God, I will cry out by day, and you will not heed, * and by night, and it will not be foolishness for me.
21:4 But you dwell in holiness, * O Praise of Israel.
21:5 In you, our fathers have hoped. * They hoped, and you freed them.
21:6 They cried out to you, and they were saved. * In you, they hoped and were not confounded.
21:7 But I am a worm and not a man: * a disgrace among men, and an outcast of the people.
21:8 All those who saw me have derided me. * They have spoken with the lips and shook the head.
21:9 He has hoped in the Lord, let him rescue him. * Let him save him because he chooses him.
21:10 For you are the one who has drawn me out of the womb, * my hope from the breasts of my mother. I have been thrown upon you from the womb;
21:11 from the womb of my mother, you are my God. * Do not depart from me.
21:12 For tribulation is near, * since there is no one who may help me.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Psalm 21(13-23) [2]
21:13 Many calves have surrounded me; * fat bulls have besieged me.
21:14 They have opened their mouths over me, * just like a lion seizing and roaring.
21:15 And so, I have been poured out like water, * and all my bones have been scattered.
21:15 My heart has become like wax, melting * in the midst of my chest.
21:16 My strength has dried up like clay, and my tongue has adhered to my jaws. * And you have pulled me down, into the dust of death.
21:17 For many dogs have surrounded me. * The council of the malicious has besieged me.
21:17 They have pierced my hands and feet. * They have numbered all my bones.
21:18 And they have examined me and stared at me. * They divided my garments among them, and over my vestment, they cast lots.
21:20 But you, O Lord, do not take your help far from me; * be attentive to my defense.
21:21 O God, rescue my soul from the spear, * and my only one from the hand of the dog.
21:22 Save me from the mouth of the lion, * and my humility from the horns of the single-horned beast.
21:23 I will declare your name to my brothers. * In the midst of the Church, I will praise you.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Psalm 21(24-32) [3]
21:24 You who fear the Lord, praise him. * All the offspring of Jacob, glorify him.
21:25 May all the offspring of Israel fear him. * For he has neither spurned nor despised the pleas of the poor.
21:25 Neither has he turned his face away from me. * And when I cried out to him, he heeded me.
21:26 My praise is with you, within a great church. * I will pay my vows in the sight of those who fear him.
21:27 The poor will eat and be satisfied, and those who yearn for the Lord will praise him. * Their hearts will live forever and ever.
21:28 All the ends of the earth will remember, * and they will be converted to the Lord.
21:28 And all the families of the Gentiles * will adore in his sight.
21:29 For the kingdom belongs to the Lord, * and he will have dominion over the Gentiles.
21:30 All the fat of the earth have gnashed their teeth, and they have adored. * In his sight, they will fall down, all those who descend to the ground.
21:31 And my soul will live for him, * and my offspring will serve him.
21:32 There will be announced for the Lord a future generation, * and the heavens will announce his justice to a people who will be born, whom the Lord has made.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. Do not depart from me, O Lord: for tribulation is near: for there is none to help.

The Thirtieth of January. The twenty-second day of the moon. In the year of our Lord 2027.
Saint Martina, Virgin and Martyr, whose heavenly birthday is commemorated on January 1.
At Edessa in Syria, Saint Barsimaeus, Bishop, who had converted many Gentiles to the faith and sent them ahead to their crown, and followed them under Trajan with the palm of martyrdom.
At Antioch, the passion of blessed Hippolytus, Priest. For a time he was deceived by the schism of Novatus, but through the working of Christ’s grace he was corrected and returned to the unity of the Church, for which and within which he afterwards accomplished a glorious martyrdom. When his followers asked him which party was the truer, he condemned the doctrine of Novatus, declared that the faith to be kept was that which the See of Peter guarded, and offered his neck to the sword.
In Africa, the passion of the holy martyrs Felician, Philippian, and one hundred and twenty-four others.
Also blessed Alexander, who was arrested in the persecution of Decius and, illustrious for the venerable white hair of his advanced age and his repeated confession, gave up his spirit amid the executioners’ torments.
At Edessa in Syria, Saint Barses, Bishop, illustrious for the gift of healing. Banished to distant regions for the Catholic faith by Valens, the Arian emperor, and worn out by three changes of his place of exile, he ended his life.
At Jerusalem, the heavenly birthday of Saint Matthias, Bishop, of whom wonderful deeds full of faith are related. He suffered much for Christ under Hadrian, and at last rested in peace.
At Pavia, Saint Armentarius, Bishop and Confessor.
At the monastery of Maubeuge in Hainaut, Saint Aldegundis, Virgin, in the time of King Dagobert.
At Viterbo, Saint Hyacintha de Mariscotti, Virgin, a nun of the Third Order of Saint Francis, renowned for penance and charity, whom Pope Pius VII numbered among the saints.
At Milan, Saint Savina, a most devout woman, who fell asleep in the Lord while praying at the tombs of the holy martyrs Nabor and Felix.
In the territory of Paris, Saint Bathildis, Queen, renowned for holiness and the glory of miracles.
℣ And elsewhere of many other holy Martyrs and Confessors, and holy Virgins.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℣ Precious in the sight of the Lord.
℟ The death of his Saints.
May holy Mary and all the Saints intercede for us to the Lord, that we may merit to be helped and saved by him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
℟ Amen.
