Invitatorium
Ant. Christus appáruit nobis, * Veníte adorémus.
Ant. Christus appáruit nobis, * Veníte adorémus.
Veníte, exsultémus Dómino, jubilémus Deo, salutári nostro: præoccupémus fáciem ejus in confessióne, et in psalmis jubilémus ei.
Ant. Christus appáruit nobis, * Veníte adorémus.
Quóniam Deus magnus Dóminus, et Rex magnus super omnes deos, quóniam non repéllet Dóminus plebem suam: quia in manu ejus sunt omnes fines terræ, et altitúdines móntium ipse cónspicit.
Ant.
Ant. Christus appáruit nobis, * Veníte adorémus.
Hódie, si vocem ejus audiéritis, nolíte obduráre corda vestra, sicut in exacerbatióne secúndum diem tentatiónis in desérto: ubi tentavérunt me patres vestri, probavérunt et vidérunt ópera mea.
Ant. Veníte adorémus.
Quadragínta annis próximus fui generatióni huic, et dixi: Semper hi errant corde, ipsi vero non cognovérunt vias meas: quibus jurávi in ira mea: Si introíbunt in réquiem meam.
Ant. Christus appáruit nobis, * Veníte adorémus.
℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℟ Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
Ant. Veníte adorémus.
Ant. Christus appáruit nobis, * Veníte adorémus.
Ant. Christ has appeared to us, * Come, let us adore.
Ant. Christ has appeared to us, * Come, let us adore.
Come, let us exult in the Lord. Let us shout joyfully to God, our Savior. Let us anticipate his presence with confession, and let us sing joyfully to him with psalms.
Ant. Christ has appeared to us, * Come, let us adore.
For the Lord is a great God and a great King over all gods. For the Lord will not drive away his people. For in his hand are all the limits of the earth, and he beholds the heights of the mountains.
Ant. Come, let us adore.
For the sea is his, and he made it, and his hands established the dry land. (kneel) Come, let us adore and fall prostrate before God, and let us weep before the Lord who made us. For he is the Lord our God, and we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Ant. Christ has appeared to us, * Come, let us adore.
If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts: as in the provocation, according to the day of temptation in the wilderness, where your fathers tempted me; they tested and saw my works.
Ant. Come, let us adore.
For forty years, I was near to that generation, and I said: These have always strayed in heart. But they have not known my ways. To them I swore in my wrath: They shall not enter into my rest.
Ant. Christ has appeared to us, * Come, let us adore.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. Come, let us adore.
Ant. Christ has appeared to us, * Come, let us adore.
Hymnus
Crudélis Heródes, Deum
Regem veníre quid times?
Non éripit mortália,
Qui regna dat cæléstia.
Ibant magi, quam víderant,
Stellam sequéntes prǽviam:
Lumen requírunt lúmine:
Deum faténtur múnere.
Lavácra puri gúrgitis
Cæléstis Agnus áttigit:
Peccáta, quæ non détulit,
Nos abluéndo sústulit.
Novum genus poténtiæ:
Aquæ rubéscunt hýdriæ,
Vinúmque jussa fúndere,
Mutávit unda oríginem.
Jesu, tibi sit glória,
Qui apparuísti géntibus,
Cum Patre, et almo Spíritu,
In sempitérna sǽcula.
Amen.
Why, impious Herod, vainly fear
That Christ the Saviour cometh here?
He takes no earthly realms away
Who gives the crown that lasts for aye.
To greet His birth the Wise Men went,
Led by the star before them sent;
Called on by light, towards light they pressed,
And by their gifts their God confessed.
In holy Jordan's purest wave
The heavenly Lamb vouchsafed to lave;
That He, to whom was sin unknown,
Might cleanse His people from their own.
New miracle of power divine!
The water reddens into wine:
He spake the word: and poured the wave
In other streams than nature gave.
Jesus, to you be glory,
Who appeared to the nations,
With the Father and the loving Spirit,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

Lectio 1
De Epístola prima ad Corínthios
1 Cor 6:1-6
℟ Hic est Fílius meus diléctus, in quo mihi bene complácui.
℣ Jube, Dómine, benedícere.
Benedictio. Unigénitus Dei Fílius nos benedícere et adjuváre dignétur.
℟ Amen.
Lectio 2
1 Cor 6:7-11
9 An nescítis quia iníqui regnum Dei non possidébunt?
Absit.
16 An nescítis quóniam qui adhǽret meretríci, unum corpus effícitur? Erunt enim (inquit) duo in carne una.
17 Qui autem adhǽret Dómino, unus spíritus est.
18 Fúgite fornicatiónem.
℣ Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
℟ Deo grátias.
℟ Reges Tharsis et ínsulæ múnera ófferent:
* Reges Arabum et Saba dona Dómino Deo addúcent.
℣ Omnes de Saba vénient, aurum et thus deferéntes.
℟ Reges Arabum et Saba dona Dómino Deo addúcent.
℣ Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
℟ Reges Arabum et Saba dona Dómino Deo addúcent.

Sermo sancti Gregórii Nazianzéni
Oratio in sancta Lumina

℟ Amen.
Lectio 5
Ego, inquit, opus hábeo a te baptizári.
* Allelúja, allelúja, allelúja.
℣ Reges Tharsis et ínsulæ múnera ófferent, reges Arabum et Saba dona addúcent.
℟ Allelúja, allelúja, allelúja.

Lectio 6

Tract. 6 in Joann., ante med.
Antequam veníret Dóminus ut baptizarétur a Joánne in Jordáne, nóverat eum illis vócibus, ubi ait: Tu ad me venis baptizári? ego a te débeo baptizári.

Lesson 1
From the First Letter to the Corinthians
1 Cor 6:1-6
1 How is it that anyone of you, having a dispute against another, would dare to be judged before the iniquitous, and not before the saints?
2 Or do you not know that the saints shall judge this world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more the things of this age?
4 Therefore, if you have matters to judge concerning this age, why not appoint those who are most contemptible in the Church to judge these things!
5 But I am speaking so as to shame you. Is there no one among you wise enough, so that he might be able to judge between his brothers?
6 Instead, brother contends against brother in court, and this before the unfaithful!
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ Today, at the baptism of the Lord in the Jordan, the heavens were opened, and the Spirit rested upon him like a dove, and the voice of the Father thundered:
* This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
℣ The Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven.
℟ This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the Only Begotten Son of God be pleased to bless and assist us.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 2
1 Cor 6:7-11
7 Indeed, it is already altogether a fault among you that you have lawsuits against one another. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather suffer fraud?
8 But you are doing the injuring and the cheating, and this toward brothers!
9 Do you not know that the iniquitous will not possess the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor servants of idolatry, nor adulterers,
10 Nor the effeminate, nor males who sleep with males, nor thieves, nor the avaricious, nor the inebriated, nor slanderers, nor the rapacious shall possess the kingdom of God.
11 And such were some of you; but you have been washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ The Holy Spirit was seen in the form of a dove, the voice of the Father was heard:
* This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
℣ The heavens were opened over him, and the voice of the Father thundered.
℟ This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the grace of the Holy Spirit enlighten our minds and hearts.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 3
1 Cor 6:12-18
12 All things are lawful for me, but not all are expedient. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of anything.
13 Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food. But God shall destroy both the stomach and food. Yet the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.
14 Truly, God has raised up the Lord, and he will raise us up by his power.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are a part of Christ? So then, should I take a part of Christ and make it a part of a harlot? By no means.
16 And do you not know that whoever is joined to a harlot becomes one body? For it is said: 'The two shall be in one flesh.'
17 But whoever is joined to the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee from fornication.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ The kings of Tarshish and the islands will offer gifts:
* The kings of Arabia and of Seba will bring gifts to the Lord God.
℣ All those from Sheba will arrive, carrying gold and frankincense.
℟ The kings of Arabia and of Seba will bring gifts to the Lord God.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ The kings of Arabia and of Seba will bring gifts to the Lord God.
Nocturn II
Ant. Let all the earth adore you, * and sing praise to you: let it sing a psalm to your name, O Lord.
Psalm 65 [4]
65:1 Shout joyfully to God, all the earth. Proclaim a psalm to his name. * Give glory to his praise.
65:3 Exclaim to God, “How terrible are your works, O Lord!” * According to the greatness of your power, your enemies will lie to you.
65:4 Let all the earth adore you and sing psalms to you. * May it sing a psalm to your name.
65:5 Draw near and see the works of God, * who is terrible in his counsels over the sons of men.
65:6 He converts the sea into dry land. They will cross the river on foot. * There, we will rejoice in him.
65:7 He rules by his power for eternity. His eyes gaze upon the nations. * May those who exasperate him, not be exalted in themselves.
65:8 Bless our God, you Gentiles, * and make the voice of his praise be heard.
65:9 He has set my soul toward life, * and he has granted that my feet may not be shaken.
65:10 For you, O God, have tested us. * You have examined us by fire, just as silver is examined.
65:11 You have led us into a snare. You have placed tribulations on our back. * You have set men over our heads.
65:12 We have crossed through fire and water. * And you have led us out to refreshment.
65:13 I will enter your house with holocausts. * I will repay my vows to you, which my lips pronounced
65:14 and my mouth spoke, * in my tribulation.
65:15 I will offer to you holocausts full of marrow, with the burnt offerings of rams. * I will offer to you bulls as well as goats.
65:16 Come, listen, and I will tell, all you who fear God, * how much he has done for my soul.
65:17 I cried out to him with my mouth, * and I extolled him under my breath.
65:18 If I have seen iniquity in my heart, * the Lord would not heed me.
65:19 Therefore God has heeded me * and he has attended to the voice of my supplication.
65:20 Blessed is God, * who has not removed my prayer, nor his mercy, from me.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. Let all the earth adore you, and sing praise to you: let it sing a psalm to your name, O Lord.
Ant. The kings of Tarshish * and the islands shall offer gifts to the King and Lord.
Psalm 71 [5]
71:2 Give your judgment, O God, to the king, * and your justice to the king’s son,
71:2 to judge your people with justice * and your poor with judgment.
71:3 Let the mountains take up peace for the people, * and the hills, justice.
71:4 He will judge the poor of the people, and he will bring salvation to the sons of the poor. * And he will humble the false accuser.
71:5 And he will remain, with the sun and before the moon, * from generation to generation.
71:6 He will descend like rain upon fleece, * and like showers showering upon the earth.
71:7 In his days, justice will arise, with abundance of peace, * until the moon is taken away.
71:8 And he will rule from sea to sea * and from the river to the limits of the whole world.
71:9 In his sight, the Ethiopians will fall prostrate, * and his enemies will lick the ground.
71:10 The kings of Tarshish and the islands will offer gifts. * The kings of Arabia and of Seba will bring gifts.
71:11 And all the kings of the earth shall adore him. * All nations will serve him.
71:12 For he will free the poor from the powerful, * and the poor one who has no helper.
71:13 He will spare the poor and the indigent, * and he will bring salvation to the souls of the poor.
71:14 He will redeem their souls from usuries and from iniquity, * and their names shall be honorable in his sight.
71:15 And he will live, and to him will be given from the gold of Arabia, and they will pray concerning him always. * They will bless him all day long.
71:16 And there will be a firmament on earth, at the summits of mountains: its fruits will be extolled above Lebanon, * and those of the city will flourish like the grass of the earth.
71:17 May his name be blessed forever; * may his name remain before the sun.
71:17 And all the tribes of the earth will be blessed in him. * All nations will magnify him.
71:18 Blessed is the Lord, God of Israel, * who alone does wondrous things.
71:19 And blessed is the name of his majesty in eternity. * And all the earth will be filled with his majesty. Amen. Amen.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. The kings of Tarshish and the islands shall offer gifts to the King and Lord.
Ant. All the nations * that you have made shall come, and shall worship before you, O Lord.
Psalm 85 [6]
85:1 Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear me. * For I am needy and poor.
85:2 Preserve my soul, for I am holy. * My God, bring salvation to your servant who hopes in you.
85:3 O Lord, be merciful to me, for I have cried out to you all day long. * Give joy to the soul of your servant, for I have lifted up my soul to you, Lord.
85:5 For you are sweet and mild, Lord, * and plentiful in mercy to all who call upon you.
85:6 Pay attention, Lord, to my prayer, * and attend to the voice of my supplication.
85:7 In the day of my tribulation, I cried out to you, * because you heeded me.
85:8 There is no one like you among the gods, O Lord, * and there is no one like you in your works.
85:9 All the nations, which you have made, will draw near and adore in your presence, O Lord. * And they will glorify your name.
85:10 For you are great, and you perform wonders. * You alone are God.
85:11 Lead me, O Lord, in your way, and I will walk in your truth. * May my heart rejoice, so that it will fear your name.
85:12 I will confess to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart. * And I will glorify your name in eternity.
85:13 For your mercy toward me is great, * and you have rescued my soul from the lower part of Hell.
85:14 O God, the iniquitous have risen up against me, and the synagogue of the powerful have sought my soul, * and they have not placed you in their sight.
85:15 And you, Lord God, are compassionate and merciful, * being patient and full of mercy and truthful.
85:16 Look down upon me and have mercy on me. * Grant your authority to your servant, and bring salvation to the son of your handmaid.
85:17 Work a sign of good for me, so that those who hate me, may look and be confounded. * For you, O Lord, have helped me and consoled me.

Lesson 4
Sermon of Saint Gregory Nazianzen
Oration on the Holy Lights
I cannot restrain the delight of joy, but am lifted up in spirit and moved; and forgetting my own littleness, I strive and am eager to take upon myself the office of the great John, or rather his humble ministry. And though I am not the Forerunner, yet I come from the desert. Christ therefore is illumined — or rather, he illumines us by his own splendor. Christ is baptized; let us also descend together, that we may likewise ascend with him.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ Shine, shine, O Jerusalem, for your light has come:
* And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
℣ And nations shall walk in your light, and kings in the splendor of your rising.
℟ And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May Christ grant us the joys of eternal life.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 5
John baptizes, and Jesus comes — sanctifying indeed the one who baptizes, but above all in order to bury the old Adam in the waters, and before all else, in order that the waters of the Jordan might be sanctified through this act: so that, as he was spirit and flesh, so also sanctification might be handed on to those who were to be baptized through spirit and water. The Baptist refuses; Jesus insists. I, he says, have need to be baptized by you. The lamp speaks to the Sun, and the voice speaks to the Word.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ All shall come from Sheba, bringing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming praise to the Lord,
* Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
℣ The kings of Tarshish and the islands shall offer gifts; the kings of Arabia and Sheba shall bring presents.
℟ Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May God kindle the fire of his love in our hearts.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 6
Jesus ascended from the water, drawing up and elevating with him the world that had in some manner been submerged with him; and he saw the heavens not divided but opened — that very heaven which Adam of old had shut against both himself and us who came after him, just as paradise had been shut with the flaming sword. The Holy Spirit bears witness; for like things concur with like. Witness is borne from heaven; for from heaven was he to whom witness was borne.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ Wise men come from the East to Jerusalem, seeking and saying: Where is he who is born, whose star we have seen?
* And we have come to adore the Lord.
℣ We have seen his star in the East.
℟ And we have come to adore the Lord.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ And we have come to adore the Lord.
Nocturn III
Ant. A man was born * in her, and the Most High himself established her.
Psalm 86 [7]
86:1 Its foundations are in the holy mountains: * the Lord loves the gates of Zion above all the tabernacles of Jacob.
86:3 Glorious things are being said of you, * O City of God.
86:4 I will be mindful of Rahab and of Babylon * knowing me.
86:4 Behold, the foreigners, and Tyre, and the people of the Ethiopians: * these have been there.
86:5 Will not Zion say that this man and that man were born in her? * And the Most High himself has founded her.
86:6 The Lord will explain, in the writings of peoples and of leaders, * about those who have been in her.
86:7 The dwelling of all who rejoice * is in you.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

95:2 Sing to the Lord and bless his name. * Announce his salvation from day to day.
95:3 Announce his glory among the Gentiles, * his miracles among all peoples.
95:4 For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised. * He is terrible, beyond all gods.
95:5 For all the gods of the Gentiles are demons, * but the Lord made the heavens.
95:6 Confession and beauty are in his sight. * Sanctity and magnificence are in his sanctuary.
95:7 Bring to the Lord, you families of the nations, bring to the Lord glory and honor. * Bring to the Lord glory for his name.
95:8 Lift up sacrifices, and enter into his courts. * Adore the Lord in his holy court.
95:9 Let the entire earth be shaken before his face. * Say among the Gentiles: The Lord has reigned.

95:11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth exult; let the sea and all its fullness be moved. * The fields and all the things that are in them will be glad.
95:12 Then all the trees of the forest will rejoice before the face of the Lord: for he arrives. * For he arrives to judge the earth.
95:13 He will judge the whole world with fairness * and the peoples with his truth.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

96:2 Clouds and mist are all around him. * Justice and judgment are the establishment of his throne.
96:3 A fire will precede him, * and it will enflame his enemies all around.
96:4 His lightnings have enlightened the whole world. * The earth saw, and it was shaken.
96:5 The mountains flowed like wax before the face of the Lord, * before the face of the Lord of all the earth.
96:6 The heavens announced his justice, * and all peoples saw his glory.
96:7 May all those who adore graven images be confounded, * along with those who glory in their false images.
96:7 All you his Angels: Adore him. * Zion heard, and was glad.
96:8 And the daughters of Judah exulted * because of your judgments, O Lord.
96:9 For you are the Most High Lord over all the earth. * You are greatly exalted above all gods.
96:10 You who love the Lord: hate evil. * The Lord watches over the souls of his holy ones. He will free them from the hand of the sinner.
96:11 The light has risen for the just, * and joy for the upright of heart.
96:12 Rejoice in the Lord, you just ones, * and confess to the remembrance of his holiness.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. Adore God, alleluia: all his Angels, alleluia.

℟ In his holy court, alleluia.
The Our Father is said silently as far as And lead us not into temptation:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom come: thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses, as we also forgive those who trespass against us:
℣ And lead us not into temptation:
℟ But deliver us from evil.
Absolution. May the almighty and merciful Lord absolve us from the bonds of our sins.
℟ Amen.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the evangelical reading be our salvation and protection.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 7
A Reading from the holy Gospel according to John
John 1:29-34
At that time: John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sin of the world. And so forth.
A Homily of Saint Augustine, Bishop
Tractate 6 on John, before the middle
Before the Lord came to be baptized by John in the Jordan, he had known him by those words, where he says: Are you coming to me to be baptized? I ought to be baptized by you. But behold, he knew the Lord, he knew the Son of God. How do we prove that he already knew that Christ would baptize in the Holy Spirit? Before he came to the river, when many were running to John to be baptized, he said to them: I indeed baptize you with water; but he who comes after me is greater than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to unfasten; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. He already knew this as well.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ The star which the Magi had seen in the East went before them, until they came to the place where the child was.
* And seeing it, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
℣ And entering the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they worshipped him.
℟ And seeing it, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the divine assistance remain always with us.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 8
What then did he learn through the dove, lest he afterward be found a liar (which God forbid us to suppose), unless that a certain property would be found in Christ of such a kind, that however many ministers were to baptize, whether just or unjust, the sanctity of baptism would not be attributed except to him upon whom the dove descended, of whom it was said: This is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit? Let Peter baptize—this is he who baptizes; let Paul baptize—this is he who baptizes; let Judas baptize—this is he who baptizes. For if holy baptism is holy according to the diversity of merits, because the merits are different, the baptisms will be different; and each person is thought to receive something better the more the one from whom he appears to have received it is better.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ Seeing the star, the Magi rejoiced with great joy:
* And entering the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they adored him: * And opening their treasures, they offered him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
℣ The star which the Magi had seen in the East went before them, until it came and stood over where the child was.
℟ And entering the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they adored him:
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ And opening their treasures, they offered him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the King of Angels lead us to the company of the citizens on high.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 9
The Saints themselves — understand this, brethren — the good ones who belong to the dove, who belong to the lot of that city of Jerusalem; these good ones in the Church, of whom the Apostle says: The Lord knows those who are his; they are of varied graces, and not all have equal merits. Some are holier than others, some are better than others. Why, then, if one is baptized by one man — say by that just and holy one — and another by another of lesser merit before God, of lesser standing, of lesser continence, of lesser life — that which they have received is nonetheless one and equal and the same, except that he is the one who baptizes?
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
Te Deum
O God, we praise you; * O Lord, we acclaim you.
Eternal Father, * all the earth reveres you.
To you all the Angels, * the heavens and all the Powers of heaven:
To you the Cherubim and Seraphim * cry out in endless praise:
(A bow is made) Holy, Holy, Holy * Lord God of hosts;
Heaven and earth are filled * with the majesty of your glory.
The glorious choir of Apostles * sings to you,
the noble company of Prophets * praises you,
the white-robed army of Martyrs * glorifies you.
Holy Church throughout the earth * proclaims you,
the Father * of boundless majesty;
your true and only Son, * worthy of adoration;
and the Holy Spirit, * the Paraclete.
You, O Christ, * are the King of glory.
You are * the Father's everlasting Son.
(A bow is made) When you resolved to save the human race, * you did not spurn the Virgin's womb.
You overcame the sting of death * and opened the Kingdom of Heaven to those who put their faith in you.
You are seated at the right hand of God * in the glory of the Father.
We believe you are the Judge * who is to come.
(The following verse is said kneeling) And so we beg you, help your servants, * redeemed by your most precious blood.
Number them * among your Saints in eternal glory.
Save your people, Lord, * and bless your inheritance.
Shepherd them * and raise them to eternal life.
Day by day * we bless you,
(A bow is made, according to custom) and we praise your name * for endless ages evermore.
Be gracious, Lord, on this day, * and keep us from all sin.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, * have mercy.
May your mercy be upon us, Lord, * as we place our trust in you.
In you, O Lord, I rest my hope: * let me never be put to shame.
The rest is omitted unless Lauds is said separately.
