Hymnus
Jam lucis orto sídere,
Deum precémur súpplices,
Ut in diúrnis áctibus
Nos servet a nocéntibus.
Linguam refrénans témperet,
Ne litis horror ínsonet:
Visum fovéndo cóntegat,
Ne vanitátes háuriat.
Sint pura cordis íntima,
Absístat et vecórdia;
Carnis terat supérbiam
Potus cibíque párcitas.
Ut, cum dies abscésserit,
Noctémque sors redúxerit,
Mundi per abstinéntiam
Ipsi canámus glóriam.
Deo Patri sit glória,
Ejúsque soli Fílio,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito,
Nunc et per omne sǽculum.
Amen.
Now that the sun has risen,
Let us humbly pray to God,
That in our daily actions
He may keep us from all harm.
May he hold back and bridle the tongue,
Lest the din of strife ring out:
May he guard the eyes with care,
Lest they drink in vanities.
Let the depths of the heart be pure,
And let folly be far away;
May sparing use of food and drink
Curb the pride of the flesh.
That when the day shall pass away
And fortune bring back the night,
Pure through abstinence,
We may ourselves sing his glory.
To God the Father be glory,
And to his only Son,
With the Spirit the Paraclete,
Now and through every age.
Amen.

Psalm 118(1-16) [2]
118:1 (Aleph) Blessed are the immaculate in the way, * who walk in the law of the Lord.
118:2 Blessed are those who examine his testimonies. * They seek him with their whole heart.
118:3 For those who work iniquity * have not walked in his ways.
118:4 You have ordered * your commandments to be kept most diligently.
118:5 I wish that my ways may be directed * so as to keep your justifications.
118:6 Then I will not be confounded, * when I will look into all your commandments.
118:7 I will confess to you with honesty of heart, * because I have learned the judgments of your justice.
118:8 I will keep your justifications. * Do not utterly abandon me.
118:9 (Beth) By what does an adolescent correct his way? * By keeping to your words.
118:10 With my whole heart, I have sought you. * Do not let me be driven away from your commandments.
118:11 I have hidden your eloquence in my heart, * so that I may not sin against you.

118:13 With my lips, * I have pronounced all the judgments of your mouth.
118:14 I have been delighted in the way of your testimonies, * as if in all riches.

118:20 My soul has longed to desire your justifications * at all times.
118:21 You have rebuked the arrogant. * Those who decline from your commandments are accursed.
118:22 Take disgrace and contempt away from me, * for I have sought your testimonies.
118:23 For even the leaders sat and spoke against me. * But your servant has been trained in your justifications.
118:24 For your testimonies are also my meditation, * and your justifications are my counsel.
118:25 (Daleth) My soul has adhered to the pavement. * Revive me according to your word.
118:26 I have declared my ways, and you have heeded me. * Teach me your justifications.
118:27 Instruct me in the way of your justifications, * and I will be trained in your wonders.
118:28 My soul has slumbered because of weariness. * Confirm me in your words.
118:29 Remove the way of iniquity from me, * and have mercy on me by your law.
118:30 I have chosen the way of truth. * I have not forgotten your judgments.
118:31 I have adhered to your testimonies, O Lord. * Do not be willing to confound me.
118:32 I have run by way of your commandments, * when you enlarged my heart.

The Twenty-Sixth of December. The seventeenth day of the moon. In the year of our Lord 2026.
At Jerusalem, the heavenly birthday of Saint Stephen, the First Martyr, who was stoned by the Jews not long after the Ascension of the Lord.
At Rome, Saint Marinus, a man of senatorial rank, who, under the Emperor Numerian and the Prefect Marcianus, was seized for the Christian religion and punished on the rack and with claws as though a slave, and was then cast into a frying pan, but, with the fire turned to dew, was freed. He was also thrown to the beasts and not at all harmed by them. At last, brought again to an altar, and when the idols fell at his prayer, struck with a sword, he obtained the triumph of martyrdom.
In the same city, on the Appian Way, the burial of Saint Dionysius, Pope, who, having spent many labors for the Church, shone with the teachings of faith.
Likewise at Rome, Saint Zosimus, Pope and Confessor.
In Mesopotamia, Saint Archelaus, Bishop, renowned for learning and holiness.
At Maiuma, in Palestine, Saint Zeno, Bishop.
At Rome, Saint Theodore, who was the Mansionarius of the Church of Saint Peter, of whom blessed Pope Gregory also makes mention.
℣ And elsewhere of many other holy Martyrs and Confessors, and holy Virgins.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℣ Precious in the sight of the Lord.
℟ The death of his Saints.
May holy Mary and all the Saints intercede for us to the Lord, that we may merit to be helped and saved by him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
℟ Amen.
