Hymnus
Jam lucis orto sídere,
Deum precémur súpplices,
Ut in diúrnis áctibus
Nos servet a nocéntibus.
Linguam refrénans témperet,
Ne litis horror ínsonet:
Visum fovéndo cóntegat,
Ne vanitátes háuriat.
Sint pura cordis íntima,
Absístat et vecórdia;
Carnis terat supérbiam
Potus cibíque párcitas.
Ut, cum dies abscésserit,
Noctémque sors redúxerit,
Mundi per abstinéntiam
Ipsi canámus glóriam.
Deo Patri sit glória,
Ejúsque soli Fílio,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito,
Nunc et per omne sǽculum.
Amen.
Now that the sun has risen,
Let us humbly pray to God,
That in our daily actions
He may keep us from all harm.
May he hold back and bridle the tongue,
Lest the din of strife ring out:
May he guard the eyes with care,
Lest they drink in vanities.
Let the depths of the heart be pure,
And let folly be far away;
May sparing use of food and drink
Curb the pride of the flesh.
That when the day shall pass away
And fortune bring back the night,
Pure through abstinence,
We may ourselves sing his glory.
To God the Father be glory,
And to his only Son,
With the Spirit the Paraclete,
Now and through every age.
Amen.

The Fourteenth of October. The third day of the moon. In the year of our Lord 2026.
At Rome, on the Aurelian Way, the heavenly birthday of the blessed Callixtus I, Pope and Martyr; who, by order of the Emperor Alexander, was tortured for a very long time by hunger in prison, beaten daily with clubs, and at last hurled headlong from a window of the house where he was kept and plunged into a well, and thus merited the triumph of victory.
At Rimini, Saint Gaudentius, Bishop and Martyr.
At Caesarea, in Palestine, the holy Carponius, Evaristus, and Priscianus, brothers of the blessed Fortunata, who, having their throats cut with the sword, together received the crown of martyrdom.
Likewise, the holy Saturninus and Lupus.
At Caesarea, in Palestine, Saint Fortunata, Virgin and Martyr, and sister of the aforesaid Martyrs Carponius, Evaristus, and Priscianus; who, in the persecution of Diocletian, having overcome the rack, fire, wild beasts, and other torments, gave up her spirit to God. Her body was afterwards translated to Naples, in Campania.
At Todi, in Umbria, Saint Fortunatus, Bishop, who (as the blessed Pope Gregory relates) shone forth with immense grace and power in driving out unclean spirits.
At Würzburg, in Germany, Saint Burchard, who was the first Bishop of that city.
At Bruges in Flanders, Saint Donatianus, Bishop of Reims.
At Trier, Saint Rusticus, Bishop.
At Lyon, in Gaul, Saint Justus, Bishop and Confessor, a man of wondrous holiness and prophetic spirit; who, laying aside the episcopate, withdrew with his lector Viator into the desert of Egypt, and there, having lived for some years a life next to that of the Angels, when the fitting end of his labors came and he was about to receive the crown of justice, he passed to the Lord. His holy body, together with the bones of the blessed Viator, who had been the minister of the same Bishop, was afterwards brought to Lyon on the Second of September.
On the same day, the burial of the blessed Dominic Loricatus.
