Invitatorium
Ant. Cor Jesu amóre nostri vulnerátum * Veníte, adorémus.
Ant. Cor Jesu amóre nostri vulnerátum * Veníte, adorémus.
Veníte, exsultémus Dómino, jubilémus Deo, salutári nostro: præoccupémus fáciem ejus in confessióne, et in psalmis jubilémus ei.
Ant. Cor Jesu amóre nostri vulnerátum * Veníte, adorémus.
Quóniam Deus magnus Dóminus, et Rex magnus super omnes deos, quóniam non repéllet Dóminus plebem suam: quia in manu ejus sunt omnes fines terræ, et altitúdines móntium ipse cónspicit.
Ant.
Ant. Cor Jesu amóre nostri vulnerátum * Veníte, adorémus.
Hódie, si vocem ejus audiéritis, nolíte obduráre corda vestra, sicut in exacerbatióne secúndum diem tentatiónis in desérto: ubi tentavérunt me patres vestri, probavérunt et vidérunt ópera mea.
Ant. Veníte, adorémus.
Quadragínta annis próximus fui generatióni huic, et dixi: Semper hi errant corde, ipsi vero non cognovérunt vias meas: quibus jurávi in ira mea: Si introíbunt in réquiem meam.
Ant. Cor Jesu amóre nostri vulnerátum * Veníte, adorémus.

Ant. The Heart of Jesus, wounded by love for us: * Come, let us adore.
Ant. The Heart of Jesus, wounded by love for us: * Come, let us adore.
Come, let us exult in the Lord. Let us shout joyfully to God, our Savior. Let us anticipate his presence with confession, and let us sing joyfully to him with psalms.
Ant. The Heart of Jesus, wounded by love for us: * Come, let us adore.
For the Lord is a great God and a great King over all gods. For the Lord will not drive away his people. For in his hand are all the limits of the earth, and he beholds the heights of the mountains.
Ant. Come, let us adore.
For the sea is his, and he made it, and his hands established the dry land. (kneel) Come, let us adore and fall prostrate before God, and let us weep before the Lord who made us. For he is the Lord our God, and we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Ant. The Heart of Jesus, wounded by love for us: * Come, let us adore.
If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts: as in the provocation, according to the day of temptation in the wilderness, where your fathers tempted me; they tested and saw my works.
Ant. Come, let us adore.
For forty years, I was near to that generation, and I said: These have always strayed in heart. But they have not known my ways. To them I swore in my wrath: They shall not enter into my rest.
Ant. The Heart of Jesus, wounded by love for us: * Come, let us adore.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. Come, let us adore.

Hymnus
Auctor beáte sǽculi,
Christe, Redémptor ómnium,
Lumen Patris de lúmine,
Deúsque verus de Deo.
Amor coégit te tuus
Mortále corpus súmere,
Ut novus Adam rédderes,
Quod vetus ille abstúlerat.
Ille amor, almus ártifex
Terræ marísque, et síderum,
Erráta patrum míserans,
Et nostra rumpens víncula.
Non Corde discédat tuo
Vis illa amóris íncliti:
Hoc fonte gentes háuriant
Remissiónis grátiam.
Percússum ad hoc est láncea,
Passúmque ad hoc est vúlnera:
Ut nos laváret sórdibus,
Unda fluénte, et sánguine.
Jesu, tibi sit glória,
Qui Corde fundis grátiam,
Cum Patre, et almo Spíritu,
In sempitérna sǽcula.
Amen.
O Christ, the world's Creator bright,
Who didst mankind from sin redeem,
Light from the Father's glorious light,
True God of God, in bliss supreme.
Thy love compelled thee to assume
A mortal body, man to save;
Reversing the old Adam's doom;
Our ransom the new Adam gave.
That love which gloriously framed all
The earth, the stars, and wondrous sea
Took pity on our parents' fall,
Broke all our bonds and set us free.
O Saviour, let thy potent love
Flow ever from thy bounteous heart;
To nations that pure fount above
The grace of pardon will impart.
His heart for this was opened wide,
And wounded by the soldier's spear,
That freely from his sacred side
Might flow the streams our souls to clear.
Glory to Father and to Son,
And to the Holy Ghost the same,
To whom all power, when time is done,
And endless rule, in endless fame.
Amen.

Lectio 4
Inter mira sacræ doctrínæ pietatísque increménta, quibus divínæ Sapiéntiæ consília clárius in dies Ecclésiæ manifestántur, vix áliud magis conspícuum est quam triumphális progréssio cultus sacratíssimi Cordis Jesu. Sǽpius quidem, priórum decúrsu témporum, Patres, Doctóres, Sancti, Redemptóris nostri amórem celebrárunt: vulnus in látere Christi apértum ómnium gratiárum arcánum dixérunt fontem.
* Omnibus invocántibus eum in veritáte.
℣ Miserátor et miséricors Dóminus, pátiens et multum miséricors.
℟ Omnibus invocántibus eum in veritáte.
℣ Jube, Dómine, benedícere.
Benedictio. Christus perpétuæ det nobis gáudia vitæ.
℟ Amen.
Lectio 5

Lectio 9

Nocturn I
Ant. The thoughts * of his Heart endure from generation to generation.
Psalm 32 [1]
32:1 Exult in the Lord, you just ones; * together praise the upright.
32:2 Confess to the Lord with stringed instruments; * sing psalms to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.
32:3 Sing to him a new song. * Sing psalms to him skillfully, with loud exclamation.
32:4 For the word of the Lord is upright, * and all his works are in faith.
32:5 He loves mercy and judgment. * The earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.
32:6 By the word of the Lord, the heavens were established, * and all their power, by the Spirit of his mouth:
32:7 gathering together the waters of the sea, as if in a container, * placing the depths in storage.
32:8 Let all the earth fear the Lord, * and may all the inhabitants of the world quake before him.
32:9 For he spoke, and they became. * He commanded, and they were created.
32:10 The Lord scatters the counsels of the nations. * Moreover, he reproves the thoughts of the people, and he rejects the counsels of the leaders.
32:11 But the counsel of the Lord remains for eternity, * the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.
32:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, * the people whom he has chosen as his inheritance.
32:13 The Lord has looked down from heaven. * He has seen all the sons of men.
32:14 From his well-prepared dwelling place, * he has gazed upon all who dwell on the earth.
32:15 He has formed the hearts of each one of them; * he understands all their works.
32:16 The king is not saved by great power, * nor will the giant be saved by his many powers.
32:17 The horse is false safety; * for he will not be saved by the abundance of his powers.
32:18 Behold, the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him * and on those who hope in his mercy,
32:19 so as to rescue their souls from death * and to feed them during famine.
32:20 Our soul remains with the Lord. * For he is our helper and protector.
32:21 For in him, our heart will rejoice, * and in his holy name, we have hoped.
32:22 Let your mercy be upon us, O Lord, * just as we have hoped in you.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. The thoughts of his Heart endure from generation to generation.
Ant. With you * is the fountain of life; you will give us drink from the torrent of your delight, O Lord.
Psalm 35 [2]
35:2 The unjust one has said within himself that he would commit offenses. * There is no fear of God before his eyes.
35:3 For he has acted deceitfully in his sight, * such that his iniquity will be found to be hatred.
35:4 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit. * He is unwilling to understand, so that he may act well.
35:5 He has been considering iniquity on his bed. * He has set himself on every way that is not good; moreover, he has not hated evil.
35:6 Lord, your mercy is in heaven, * and your truth is even to the clouds.
35:7 Your justice is like the mountains of God. * Your judgments are a great abyss.
35:7 Men and beasts, you will save, O Lord. * How you have multiplied your mercy, O God!
35:8 And so the sons of men * will hope under the cover of your wings.
35:9 They will be inebriated with the fruitfulness of your house, * and you will give them to drink from the torrent of your enjoyment.
35:10 For with you is the fountain of life; * and within your light, we will see the light.
35:11 Extend your mercy before those who know you, * and your justice to these, who are upright in heart.
35:12 May arrogant feet not approach me, * and may the hand of the sinner not disturb me.
35:13 In that place, those who work iniquity have fallen. * They have been expelled; they were not able to stand.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. With you is the fountain of life; you will give us drink from the torrent of your delight, O Lord.
Ant. The man * of my peace, who ate my bread, has greatly betrayed me.
Psalm 40 [3]
40:2 Blessed is he who shows understanding toward the needy and the poor. * The Lord will deliver him in the evil day.
40:3 May the Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth. * And may he not hand him over to the will of his adversaries.
40:4 May the Lord bring him help on his bed of sorrow. * In his infirmity, you have changed his entire covering.
40:5 I said, “O Lord, be merciful to me. * Heal my soul, because I have sinned against you.”
40:6 My enemies have spoken evils against me. * When will he die and his name perish?
40:7 And when he came in to see me, he was speaking emptiness. * His heart gathered iniquity to itself.
40:7 He went outside, * and he was speaking in the same way.
40:8 All my enemies were whispering against me. * They were thinking up evils against me.
40:9 They established an unjust word against me. * Will he that sleeps no longer rise again?
40:10 For even the man of my peace, in whom I hoped, * who ate my bread, has greatly supplanted me.
40:11 But you, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up again. * And I will requite them.
40:12 By this, I knew that you preferred me: * because my adversary will not rejoice over me.
40:13 But you have sustained me, because of my innocence, * and you have confirmed me in your sight in eternity.
40:14 Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for all generations and even forever. * Amen. Amen.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. The man of my peace, who ate my bread, has greatly betrayed me.
℣ Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.
℟ For I am meek and humble of heart.
The Our Father is said silently as far as And lead us not into temptation:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom come: thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread: and forgive us our trespasses, as we also forgive those who trespass against us:
℣ And lead us not into temptation:
℟ But deliver us from evil.
Absolution. Hear the prayers of your servants, Lord Jesus Christ, and have mercy on us: You who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
℟ Amen.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the eternal Father bless us with his everlasting blessing.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 1
From the prophet Jeremiah
Ier 24:5-7
5 “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: so will I regard as good the captives of Judah, whom I have sent from this place into the land of the Chaldeans.
6 And I will set my eyes upon them, so as to be pleased. And I will lead them back into this land. And I will build them up, and I will not tear them down. And I will plant them, and I will not uproot them.
7 And I will give them a heart, so that they may know me, that I am the Lord. And they will be my people, and I will be their God. For they shall return to me with their whole heart.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ I will make an everlasting covenant with them, and I will not cease doing good to them, and I will put my fear in their hearts,
* So that they may not depart from me.
℣ And I will rejoice over them, when I have done good to them with my whole heart.
℟ So that they may not depart from me.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the Only Begotten Son of God be pleased to bless and assist us.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 2
Ier 30:18-19; 30:21-24
18 Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will turn back the turning away of the tabernacles of Jacob, and I will take pity on his roofs. And the city will be built up in her heights, and the temple will be founded according to its order.
19 And praise will go forth from them, with the voice of those who play.
21 And their ruler will be one of their own. And their prince will be led forward from their midst. And I will draw him near, and he will cling to me. For who is the one who applies his heart, so that he may draw near to me, says the Lord?
22 And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.”
23 Behold the whirlwind of the Lord, his fury going forth, a destroying storm! It will rest upon the head of the impious.
24 The Lord will not turn back the wrath of his indignation, until he has accomplished and completed the plan of his heart. In the last days, you shall understand these things.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ If my enemy had cursed me, I would indeed have borne it;
* But you, a man of one mind with me, who shared pleasant food with me.
℣ And if one who hated me had spoken proudly against me, I would perhaps have hidden myself from him.
℟ But you, a man of one mind with me, who shared pleasant food with me.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the grace of the Holy Spirit enlighten our minds and hearts.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 3
Ier 31:1-3; 31:31-33
1 “In that time, says the Lord, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.”
2 Thus says the Lord: “The people who had remained after the sword, found grace in the desert. Israel will go to his rest.”
3 The Lord appeared to me from a distance: “And I have loved you in perpetual charity. Therefore, showing pity, I have drawn you.
31 Behold, the days are approaching, says the Lord, when I will form a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,
32 Not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers, in the day when I took them by the hand, so as to lead them away from the land of Egypt, the covenant which they nullified, though I was the ruler over them, says the Lord.
33 But this will be the covenant that I will form with the house of Israel, after those days, says the Lord: I will give my law to their inner most being, and I will write it upon their heart. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ When we were dead in sins, God gave us life together with Christ,
* Because of the great love with which he loved us.
℣ So that in the ages to come he might show the abundant riches of his grace.
℟ Because of the great love with which he loved us.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ Because of the great love with which he loved us.

46:6 God ascends with jubilation, * and the Lord with the voice of the trumpet.
46:7 Sing psalms to our God, sing psalms. * Sing psalms to our King, sing psalms.
46:8 For God is the King of all the earth. * Sing psalms wisely.
46:9 God will reign over the peoples. * God sits upon his holy throne.
46:10 The leaders of the peoples have been gathered together by the God of Abraham. * For the strong gods of the earth have been exceedingly exalted.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Ant. When my heart * was in anguish, you lifted me up upon the rock.

60:2 O God, pay attention to my supplication. * Be attentive to my prayer.
60:3 I cried out to you from the ends of the earth. * When my heart was in anguish, you exalted me on a rock.
60:4 You have led me, for you have been my hope, * a tower of strength before the face of the enemy.
60:5 I will dwell in your tabernacle forever. * I will be protected under the cover of your wings.
60:6 For you, my God, have listened to my prayer. * You have granted an inheritance to those who fear your name.

Ant. According to the multitude * of my sorrows within my heart, your consolations have given joy to my soul.
Psalm 93 [6]
93:1 The Lord is the God of retribution. * The God of retribution acts in order to deliver.
93:2 Lift yourself up, for you judge the earth. * Repay the arrogant with retribution.
93:3 How long will sinners, O Lord, * how long will sinners glory?
93:4 How long will they utter and speak iniquity? * How long will all who work injustice speak out?
93:5 They have humiliated your people, O Lord, * and they have harassed your inheritance.
93:6 They have executed the widow and the new arrival, * and they have slaughtered the orphan.
93:7 And they have said, “The Lord will not see, * nor will the God of Jacob understand.”
93:8 Understand, you senseless ones among the people. * And be wise at last, you foolish ones.
93:9 He who formed the ear, will he not hear? * And he who forged the eye, does he not look closely?
93:10 He who chastises nations, * he who teaches man knowledge, will he not rebuke?
93:11 The Lord knows the thoughts of men: * that these are in vain.
93:12 Blessed is the man whom you will instruct, O Lord. * And you will teach him from your law.
93:13 So may you soothe him from the evil days, * until a pit may be dug for sinners.
93:14 For the Lord will not drive away his people, * and he will not abandon his inheritance,
93:15 even until the time when justice is being converted into judgment, * and when those who are close to justice are all those who are upright of heart.
93:16 Who will rise up with me against the malignant? * Or who will stand with me against the workers of iniquity?
93:17 Except that the Lord assisted me, * my soul almost would have dwelt in Hell.
93:18 If ever I said, “My foot is slipping,” * then your mercy, O Lord, assisted me.
93:19 According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, * your consolations have given joy to my soul.
93:20 Does the seat of iniquity adhere to you, * you who contrive hardship within a commandment?
93:21 They will hunt down the soul of the just, * and they will condemn innocent blood.
93:22 And the Lord has been made into a refuge for me, * and my God into the assistance of my hope.
93:23 And he will repay them their iniquity, and he will destroy them in their malice. * The Lord our God will utterly destroy them.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. According to the multitude of my sorrows within my heart, your consolations have given joy to my soul.
℣ I said: O Lord, have mercy on me.
℟ Heal my soul, for I have sinned against you.
Absolution. May his loving kindness and mercy assist us, he who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
℟ Amen.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May God the almighty Father be gracious and merciful to us.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 4
Among the wonderful advances in sacred doctrine and piety by which the counsels of divine Wisdom are more clearly manifested to the Church day by day, there is scarcely anything more conspicuous than the triumphant progress of devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Often indeed, in the course of earlier ages, the Fathers, Doctors, and Saints have celebrated the love of our Redeemer: they have called the wound opened in the side of Christ the mysterious fountain of all graces. But from the middle ages, as the faithful began to be moved by a more tender devotion toward the most holy Humanity of the Savior, contemplative souls were wont to penetrate through that wound to the very Heart itself, wounded by love for mankind. And from that time this contemplation became so familiar to the holiest souls that there is neither region nor religious order in which notable testimonies of it in this age are not found. In the most recent centuries, and especially at that time when heretics, under the guise of false piety, were seeking to deter Christians from the most holy Eucharist, public devotion to the Most Sacred Heart began to be displayed, chiefly through the work of Saint John Eudes, who is not undeservedly called the author of the liturgical cult of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ The Lord is near to all who call upon him,
* To all who call upon him in truth.
℣ The Lord is compassionate and merciful, patient and full of mercy.
℟ To all who call upon him in truth.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May Christ grant us the joys of eternal life.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 5
Now, in order to establish and perfect the cult of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, and to spread it throughout the whole world, God himself chose as his instrument a most humble virgin of the Order of the Visitation, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, who, from her earliest years already burning with love for the Sacrament of the Eucharist, was often visited by Christ the Lord appearing to her; and he deigned to make known to her the riches and desires of his divine Heart. Of these apparitions the most celebrated is that in which Jesus showed himself to her as she prayed before the Eucharist, displayed his most Sacred Heart, and complained that, for all his immense charity, he received nothing but the insults of ungrateful men, and bade her take care to establish a new feast on the Friday after the Octave of Corpus Christi, so that his Heart might be honored with fitting veneration, and the offenses inflicted upon him in the Sacrament of love by sinners might be expiated by worthy acts of reparation. How many and how great were the difficulties that God's servant experienced in carrying out the commands of Christ, there is no one who does not know; but confirmed by the Lord himself and strenuously aided by the spiritual directors of her soul, who labored with incredible ardor in promoting this devotion, she did not cease to fulfill faithfully unto death the ministry entrusted to her from heaven.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ I confess to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the prudent
* And revealed them to little ones.
℣ Yes, Father, for this was pleasing before you.
℟ And revealed them to little ones.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May God kindle the fire of his love in our hearts.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 6
Finally, in the year one thousand seven hundred and sixty-five, Pope Clement XIII approved the Office and Mass in honor of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus; and Pius IX extended the feast to the universal Church. Thenceforth the cultus of the Most Sacred Heart, like a river overflowing its banks, swept away every obstacle and spread through the whole world; and at the dawn of a new century, the Jubilee being proclaimed, Pope Leo XIII wished the entire human race to be consecrated to the Most Sacred Heart. This consecration, carried out with solemn rite in all the churches of the Catholic world, brought an immense increase to this devotion, and drew to it not only peoples but also individual families, who consecrate themselves in countless numbers to the Divine Heart and submit themselves to its royal rule. Finally, Pope Pius XI, so that the solemnity of the feast might more fully answer to the devotion of the Christian people so widely spread, raised the feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus to the rank of a double of the first class with an octave; and moreover, that the violated rights of Christ the supreme and most beloved King and Lord might be repaired, and the sins of peoples bewailed, he commanded that on the same feast day a reparatory prayer be recited each year in all the churches of the Christian world.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ All the nations that you have made will come
* And will adore before you, O Lord.
℣ And they will glorify your name, for you are great and do wondrous deeds.
℟ And will adore before you, O Lord.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ And will adore before you, O Lord.

96:6 The heavens announced his justice, * and all peoples saw his glory.
96:7 May all those who adore graven images be confounded, * along with those who glory in their false images.
96:7 All you his Angels: Adore him. * Zion heard, and was glad.
96:8 And the daughters of Judah exulted * because of your judgments, O Lord.
96:9 For you are the Most High Lord over all the earth. * You are greatly exalted above all gods.
96:10 You who love the Lord: hate evil. * The Lord watches over the souls of his holy ones. He will free them from the hand of the sinner.

97:2 The Lord has made known his salvation. * He has revealed his justice in the sight of the nations.
97:3 He has remembered his mercy * and his truth toward the house of Israel.
97:3 All the ends of the earth have seen * the salvation of our God.
97:4 Sing joyfully to God, all the earth. * Sing and exult, and sing psalms.
97:5 Sing psalms to the Lord with stringed instruments, with strings and the voice of a psalmist, * with subtle wind instruments and the voice of woodwinds.
97:6 Make a joyful noise before the Lord our king. * Let the sea be moved and all its fullness, the whole world and all who dwell in it.
97:8 The rivers will clap their hands, the mountains will exult together, before the presence of the Lord. * For he comes to judge the earth.
97:9 He will judge the whole world with justice, * and the peoples with fairness.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Ant. I will sing to you * among the nations, for your mercy is great above the heavens.
Psalm 107 [9]
107:2 My heart is prepared, O God, my heart is prepared. * I will sing songs, and I will sing psalms in my glory.
107:3 Rise up, my glory. Rise up, Psalter and harp. * I will arise in early morning.
107:4 I will confess to you, O Lord, among the peoples. * And I will sing psalms to you among the nations.
107:5 For your mercy is great, beyond the heavens, * and your truth, even to the clouds.
107:6 Be exalted, O God, beyond the heavens, and your glory, beyond all the earth, * so that your beloved may be freed.
107:7 Save with your right hand, and heed me. * God has spoken in his holiness.
107:8 I will exult, and I will divide Shechem, * and I will divide by measure the steep valley of tabernacles.
107:9 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine, * and Ephraim is the supporter of my head.
107:10 Judah is my king. * Moab is the cooking pot of my hope.
107:10 I will extend my shoe in Idumea; * the foreigners have become my friends.
107:11 Who will lead me into the fortified city? * Who will lead me, even into Idumea?
107:12 Will not you, O God, who had rejected us? * And will not you, O God, go out with our armies?
107:13 Grant us help from tribulation, * for vain is the help of man.
107:14 In God, we will act virtuously, * and he will bring our enemies to nothing.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.
Ant. I will sing to you among the nations, for your mercy is great above the heavens.

℟ Amen.
Lesson 7
A Reading from the holy Gospel according to John
John 19:31-37
At that time: the Jews, because it was the preparation day, so that the bodies would not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a great day), they petitioned Pilate in order that their legs might be broken, and they might be taken away. And so forth.
A Homily of Saint Bonaventure, Bishop
Book on the Tree of Life, section 30
So that the Church might be formed from the side of Christ sleeping on the cross, and the Scripture fulfilled which says: They shall look upon him whom they have pierced, it was granted by divine ordinance that one of the soldiers should pierce and open that sacred side with a lance; so that with blood and water flowing forth, the price of our salvation might be poured out — which, issuing from the hidden fountain of the Heart, might give power to the Sacraments of the Church for the conferring of the life of grace, and might now be for those living in Christ the drink of the fountain of living water, springing up unto eternal life. Rise up, therefore, O soul, friend of Christ; cease not to be watchful; set your lips there, that you may draw water from the fountains of the Savior.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ I, if I am lifted up from the earth,
* Will draw all things to myself.
℣ (Now he said this, signifying what kind of death he would die.)
℟ Will draw all things to myself.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the divine assistance remain always with us.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 8
On the Mystical Vine, chapter 3
Since we have come once to the most sweet Heart of the Lord Jesus, and it is good for us to be here, let us not be easily torn away from it. O how good and delightful it is to dwell in this Heart. Your Heart, O best Jesus, is a good treasure, a precious pearl, which we found when the field of your body was dug. Who would cast away this pearl? Rather, I will give all my pearls; I will exchange and purchase it with all my thoughts and affections, casting all my care upon the Heart of the good Jesus, and without deceit it will nourish me. Having found this Heart, then — yours and mine, O most sweet Jesus — I will pray to you, my God: admit my prayers into the sanctuary of your hearing; indeed, draw me wholly into your Heart.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
℟ Let us therefore be imitators of God
* And let us walk in love.
℣ As Christ also loved us and delivered himself up for us.
℟ And let us walk in love.
℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.
℟ And let us walk in love.
℣ Grant a blessing, O Lord.
Benediction. May the King of Angels lead us to the company of the citizens on high.
℟ Amen.
Lesson 9
For it was for this that your side was pierced, that an entrance might be opened for us. For this was your Heart wounded, that, freed from outward disturbances, we might dwell within it. And likewise was it wounded for this, that through the visible wound we might see the invisible wound of love. How better could this ardor be shown, unless he permitted not only the body but the very Heart itself to be wounded by the lance? The wound of the flesh, therefore, shows the wound of the spirit. Who would not love a Heart so wounded? Who would not love in return one who loves so much? Who would not embrace one so pure? Let us therefore, while we remain still in the flesh, as much as we are able, love him in return who loves us, let us embrace our wounded One, whose hands and feet and side and Heart the impious cultivators have dug open; and let us pray that he may be pleased to constrain our heart, still hard and impenitent, with the bond of his love and wound it with his dart.
℣ But you, O Lord, have mercy on us.
℟ Thanks be to God.
Te Deum
O God, we praise you; * O Lord, we acclaim you.
Eternal Father, * all the earth reveres you.
To you all the Angels, * the heavens and all the Powers of heaven:
To you the Cherubim and Seraphim * cry out in endless praise:
(A bow is made) Holy, Holy, Holy * Lord God of hosts;
Heaven and earth are filled * with the majesty of your glory.
The glorious choir of Apostles * sings to you,
the noble company of Prophets * praises you,
the white-robed army of Martyrs * glorifies you.
Holy Church throughout the earth * proclaims you,
the Father * of boundless majesty;
your true and only Son, * worthy of adoration;
and the Holy Spirit, * the Paraclete.
You, O Christ, * are the King of glory.
You are * the Father's everlasting Son.
(A bow is made) When you resolved to save the human race, * you did not spurn the Virgin's womb.
You overcame the sting of death * and opened the Kingdom of Heaven to those who put their faith in you.
You are seated at the right hand of God * in the glory of the Father.
We believe you are the Judge * who is to come.
(The following verse is said kneeling) And so we beg you, help your servants, * redeemed by your most precious blood.
Number them * among your Saints in eternal glory.
Save your people, Lord, * and bless your inheritance.
Shepherd them * and raise them to eternal life.
Day by day * we bless you,
(A bow is made, according to custom) and we praise your name * for endless ages evermore.
Be gracious, Lord, on this day, * and keep us from all sin.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, * have mercy.
May your mercy be upon us, Lord, * as we place our trust in you.
In you, O Lord, I rest my hope: * let me never be put to shame.
The rest is omitted unless Lauds is said separately.
