Hymn

With the fair sun of Easter morn

The world's excelling joy is born,

When, bright with new and greater grace,

The Apostles see the Saviour's face.

They in their Lord's fair flesh descry

The wounds that shine as stars on high,

And, wondering, faithful witness bear,

And all that they have seen declare.

O Christ, most loving King, we pray,

Possess our inmost hearts today,

While grateful lips with glad acclaim

Sing fervent praises to thy name.

Lord Jesu, that thou mayest be

Our Easter joy eternally,

Our souls from death of sin set free

That they, new born, may live to thee.

To God the Father, and the Son,

From death arisen, praise be done:

With God the Holy Ghost on high

Henceforth to all eternity.

Amen.

℣ Precious in the sight of the Lord, alleluia,

℟ Is the death of his Saints, alleluia.

Canticle of Zechariah

Luke 1:68-79

1:68 Blessed ✠ is the Lord God of Israel. * For he has visited and has wrought the redemption of his people.

1:69 And he has raised up a horn of salvation for us, * in the house of David his servant,

1:70 just as he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, * who are from ages past:

1:71 salvation from our enemies, * and from the hand of all those who hate us,

1:72 to accomplish mercy with our fathers, * and to call to mind his holy testament,

1:73 the oath, which he swore to Abraham, our father, * that he would grant to us,

1:74 so that, having been freed from the hand of our enemies, * we may serve him without fear,

1:75 in holiness and in justice before him, * throughout all our days.

1:76 And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High. * For you will go before the face of the Lord: to prepare his ways,

1:77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people * for the remission of their sins,

1:78 through the heart of the mercy of our God, * by which, descending from on high, he has visited us,

1:79 to illuminate those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, * and to direct our feet in the way of peace.

℣ Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

℟ As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.

Prayer

Let us pray.

O God, whose nature is always to have mercy and to spare, receive our supplication, that your loving mercy may graciously absolve us and all your servants who are bound by the chains of sin.

Hear, we pray, O Lord, the prayers of your suppliants, and pardon the sins of those who confess to you, that in your kindness you may grant us both forgiveness and peace.

Graciously show us your ineffable mercy, O Lord, that you may both free us from all our sins and rescue us from the punishments we deserve for them.

O God, who are offended by sin and appeased by repentance, graciously regard the prayers of your people who beseech you, and turn away the scourges of your wrath which we deserve for our sins.

Almighty and everlasting God, have mercy on your servant, our Pope N., and according to your mercy guide him in the way of eternal salvation, that by your gift he may desire what is pleasing to you and accomplish it with all his strength.

O God, from whom come holy desires, right counsels and just works, give your servants that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be devoted to your commandments and, the fear of enemies removed, our times may be peaceful under your protection.

Burn our loins and our hearts with the fire of the Holy Spirit, O Lord, that we may serve you with chaste bodies and please you with pure hearts.

O God, Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful: grant to the souls of your servants and handmaids the remission of all their sins; that through devout supplications they may obtain the pardon they have always desired:

Go before our actions with your inspiration, we pray, O Lord, and follow them with your help, that all our prayer and work may always begin from you and, begun through you, be brought to completion.

Almighty and everlasting God, who rule over both the living and the dead, and have mercy on all whom you foreknow will be yours in faith and works, we humbly beseech you: through the intercession of all your Saints, may those for whom we have resolved to pour out our prayers, whether this present age still holds them in the flesh or the age to come has already received them stripped of their bodies, obtain through your gracious mercy the pardon of all their sins.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son: who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

℟ Amen.

℣ O Lord, hear my prayer.

℟ And let my cry come before you.

℣ May the almighty and merciful Lord graciously hear us.

℟ Amen.

℣ May the souls of the faithful, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

℟ Amen.
